Default fish market

are there any good fish markets in or near fishtown? doesn't have to be nice or pretty or anything like that -- the only requirement is that it can't be thriftway.

What about that lobster place right on Girard near the El stop? (I don't eat fish so I'll defer to someone else here.)

I usually go to south philly for fish. There are numerous places, obviously the Italian market, Anastsia's at 9th and Washington or the numerous open air stalls along 9th st., also Ippolitos at 9th and Oregon. There are also the 2 asian markets along Washington ave (one at 6th, the other at 11th) that have a huge selection of fresh fish.

Otherwise, up on Aramingo ave past Port Richmond thre's the blue point (is that still open?). The only thing in Fishtown is Eddies Crab Shack next to the Exxon at York and Aramingo, but I dont think they sell fish, just crabs and shrimp mostly.

I guess it's another one of those lacking amenities that we have to go elsewhere for.

There are no good fish markets in Fishtown - which is unfortunate., and which presents an interesting opportunity. I was just telling my wife that I would love to buy the Penn Treaty Market and turn it into the Fishtown Fish Market - and make it an upscale, well-stocked fish market. It's close to major transportation - Delaware Ave, Girard, 1-95, the El, and the 23, and it's at the cross roads of a hip hood (nl), working class hood (ft) and hispanic hood. I think the customer base is there. Of course, I'm no fishmonger - but I think the concept is viable.
