Default Flowers in Fishtown

I had empty flower boxes and barrel planters in front of my house and decided on Sunday I couldn't wait any longer for the Berks Garden Center to open because I was tired of people tossing trash in my empty planters. I ended up at Home Depot.

Just saw the announcement that Greensgrow is open and has plants AND watch for a coupon in the mail for 20% if you're on their mailing list.

When does the Berks Garden Center open, praytell?

Does anyone know what those small baby pine tree looking plants people are putting in their barrels this year? They seem all the rage but all the ones I've seen at HD grow to be like 6-8 feet tall and quite wide around. Is there a smaller variety and where have you seen them?

Thanks in advance!

The Garden Center re-opens this Saturday, April 29th, 9am-4pm
1825 Frankford @ Berks
215-739-6910
Hours: Thurs & Fri 1pm-6pm
Sat 9am-4pm
(& Sun 9am-4pm in May only)

Free self-serve compost & mulch are available 24/7 from the bins on the Berks Street side.

I'm not a horticulturalist, but Diane, David or Marlene might be able to help you with the shrub question.

I've seen them at home depot, but I think it was the one down in south philly. I believe the are labled 'dwarf' and still can grow 3-4'.

Edited to add, it's been a year since I've been to the south philly HD...they *did* have them a year ago.

I may venture to Greensgrow today and see what they have...I love me some coupons...and I need to get my Greensgrow fix prior to my share starting for the season!! Perhaps they'll have some bushes or something else that looks plush and doesn't require constant maintenance.

Thanks, Nola, for the info on the Garden Center. I love being able to trip up the block and end up in a garden center. It was definitely the nicest surprise after I moved to my block 3 years ago.

Please let us know about their vegetable transplants; I'd like to get some tomato plants for our garden.

Thanks!
