Default Question about Fishtown(?) area...

Hello,

My cousin recently signed a lease to rent a place down in what he calls Fishtown, but is going to be going away for the next couple of months, and wants me to take over the lease.
Right now, I live in what would be the far Northeast. Basically around the Academy Road exit. I've never really had any reason to go down around this area, so I have no idea what to expect.
From reading on here, it seems like this area, E. Cumberland St., might not even be in Fishtown, but actually Kensington. This place is down by the river kind of, at least from what he's told me, in the 2700 hundred block.
He claims I'll like it enough to stay there, but I dunno. I was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on this area as far as how it compares to the NE, as far as crime and stuff. And also how much hostility I could expect to bear from the neighbors for being in my 20's, despite any yuppie or hipster tendancies.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mr Clean, Fishtown is bordered by the river so you're actually farther away from Kensington which is out toward the west. 2700 E. Cumberland is definitely Fishtown albiet on the NE outskirts (close to port richmond). If I'm not mistaken it's probably right behind the Port Richmond (go figure?) Village shopping center in the "commercial" district for lack of a better term; also near the new Applebees, Eckerd, soon to be Wawa, etc. So in that respect it's not quite in Fishtown proper. It's not a bad area by any means but it's also not very pedestrian friendly - ie: right by the shopping center, Aramingo ave, etc, lots of traffic and such. I don't have crime stats but I'd say its on par with the NE so I wouldn't worry. I also can't see you having any problems with the neighbors there, but then again I don't know who you'll be living next to?

Whether or not it's in Fishtown all depends on who you talk to. Originally that area was not called Fishtown. Then again, Fishtown wasn't originally called Fishtown. At this point, lots of folks in the area would say you were in Fishtown, but quite a few would still say you aren't.

Anyway, I like the area and would say "Enjoy!" As always, YMMV.
