I adore Wegmans. I really can't fully explain just how wonderful I think it is. It combines all the best (in my opinion) elements a food store can have. Great bakery, prepared foods, meat selections, international foods, organics, produce, coffee (oh, and I don't have any "interest" in Wegmans), Tea, and cheese - oh the cheese - and (generally) very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

And that's just the fancy stuff - they also do "regular" groceries very well (and economically) and have an excellent pharmacy/drug store selection. The Wegman brand is excellent - everything I've tried has been good quality and exceptional price; I'm a particularly big fan of the Wegman sodas - they have the craziest flavors.

About 4 years ago they built a Wegmans within walking distance to my mother's home in Central PA - which is an unbelievably super thing. Winter - Summer I trek out to Downingtown to get a Wegmans fix (I'm fine during football season).

The Wegman's in Mt Laurel, NJ opened a couple of weeks ago.

That's good news. The Wegmans website says it won't open until March 19.

I believe the March 19 date is accurate. A relative works for Wegman's and he's in town this week to prepare staff for the opening.

Wegmans is really an incredible store - it puts the supermarkets around here to shame. Their stuff is not cheap - and price issues can be a touchy point for Phila. area consumers, so we'll have to see how it works out - but the Cherry Hill & Mt. Laurel locations are well thought out for hitting their target market.

Wegmans is also a great company, consistantly ranked as one of the top employers to work for...

Yeah, I think so. If I've got to travel a distance to go shopping anyway, I know I'll go to the Wegmans some of the time. I'll probably even go to the Mt. Laurel - which I didn't know about until today - occaisionally between now and June.

Wegman's is worth the trip....ahh the memories. I went to school in Geneva, NY. Wegman's started in Rochester (I believe) and is huge in Upstate NY. Being such a small town, Wegman's was a big deal there. Nonetheless, their quality, cleanliness, and take-out items were always very delicious and as fresh as could be. It is the greatest market....and the prices were very reasonable. Their pizza and subs made a great hangover cure for four years.
