Well, here is their website : http://www.shackamaxoncourt.com/index.html I like how their best selling point is the gate! (lol) Now, why is this a gated community?

I am going to make a prediction that they fix up the existing part, try and sell those and use the lot next door for "temporary" parking until they pre-sell some of the unbuilt part.
I live on the block and had to call L&I to get their dumpsters removed, as they were being filled with household trash and had been there for a couple of months, one on Shackamaxon and one on Day St. I also like the oil soaked rags from the large pump that they disassembled on site that still are sitting there. Hydraulic fluid or some sort of oil leaked out on to Shackamaxon. So far I am not impressed with the project. Am I ranting? |

My mom is shaking her head.
She grew up on 1100 Dutton a mere two blocks away. I just showed her this, and she said those homes were beautiful, and big. Then she said "Huh. I never knew I lived in Center City". |

You weren't in center city until you went under ground at Spring Garden which was Fairmount station. Pre-95 which took out alot of ground from her cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. The El went so close to The Immaculate Conception Church the priest would have to stop talking until the El passed. She went to Hallahan, and came up at 15th, and then took the 25 trolley car. That took a half hour, and five minutes to get to school. For everybody including mom, grandmom, aunts, uncles to get to work at Smith-Kline it took about a half hour. My greatgrandmom was born in that house, and she never lived in Center City. They actually were NOLIBS as Fishtown started at Frankford&Girard, and was a block away by that fancy, pantsy restaurant bar my brother hangs in she says. She mean Johnny Brenda's. LOL So there. Too funny. Oh, and that McDonald's was the Shackamaxon Boys Club, and before that it was a school my grandmom who is 85 years old attended. *****Plus when the nun Sister Paracleet who taugh them in Immaculate Conception School which is no longer standing at Front&Allen Sister sent them in taxis to do errands, and sent them to CENTER CITY. So Sister Paracleet was never wrong.***** If my dad was living and he was from Crease, and Thompson. He'd tell you he didn't live in center city either.***** Doctor Scott Kapegeant lived, and had an office on Shackamaxon Street she tells me to tell you, and Harmer Hall which bosted a bowling alley, and wedding facility on the second floor, and it was NOT in center city. I love it when the old ladies get burned up. Hahahaha. |

Cute story! I laughed about the Johnny Brenda's being fancy pantsy. Of course, I wouldn't consider it so which brings up my feelings on the city in general...
Is it impossible to consider that "center city" is growing? I would still say Northern Liberties and Fishtown are on the outskirts of center city but I think it's completely feasible that it won't always be. Furthermore, I also think it's a matter of perspective. For those of us living in the city, we wouldn't consider it center city but someone in the suburbs looking at the city as a whole might consider it center city compared to areas like chestnut hill, roxborough, the northeast, etc. I don't know that anyone can draw concrete lines around "center city". |
