Default Can't believe I'm the only woman over 50

Does anyone else find the area devoid of activities/social connections for professional older women? Would like to start a social/activity group with other older women in the Fishtown/NL area. Please contact me if you have any suggestions.

Default Your not the only one

Guys in the forties and fifties have the same problem - I moved to Philly a year ago last July from the burbs - it has been extremely difficult to meet nice people to do stuff with - happy hour - movies - hang out - dinners etc -

When I first discovered Phillyblog.com I posted a thread asking where the cool 40 ish people hang out. Unfortunately, I received only a few responses and to sum it up according to the responses...we don't hang out anymore. Am I one of the few in this age range without children and who can actually stay awake past 9:30PM? YIKES!!!

Default Past 9:30 is fine but gotta roll in before 12 on work nite

I go out on occassion on work nites - but usually wait for the weekend - I have my kids every other Saturday nite weekend stay over thing - we have a blast - but the off weekend I go out to different places - went to Adelphias in NJ a few weeks ago to meet friends and The Loft in South Philly a week ago to meet friends but I have yet to find a place ya can just sit and hang out and relax in the evening - I have been in Philly since a year ago last July - and purchased last March - near Fishtown - Petes Sake in Queen Village is nice, Fredericks on Front on Wed but an older crowd for the most part - I am a mere 43 yo myself - DiAngelos can be fun sometimes - I guess I will have to keep looking -

I don't fit the criteria, but it sounds like you guys and gals may have a group in the making. Why not post here or on craigslist for people of a certain age/gender/interest and call a meeting for someplace public, like a Cosi or a quiet restaurant/bar? Bowling, book club, movie club -- there must be others like you in the city. Speaking of movie club, I think they advertise sometimes in the Ritz Filmbill for a group that goes to films together and then discusses them afterwards over dinner. Sounds fun to me. Good luck!

Nice to know I'm not out here alone. I, too, moved to Philadelphia two years ago -- 3 days after my 50th birthday. I've never heard of Philadelphia referred to as a 'college town' but it certainly feels like it to me. If you're not a student or a young married person, you certainly feel a little 'out of it' here....I'm not anywhere near Fishtown, though...

Well, now that my camel's nose is under the tent, may as well go whole hog and start posting here.

Dobie, I read your initial post here last week and it got me thinking...how many of y'all looking for these social contacts/circles are pretty much new to the region? As a native, I'd venture to say we're already established our 'social circles' simply by living here forever....I make new acquaintances all of the time, but the need for anything so formal as an informal group didn't occur to me until I read through this thread since I (and presumably my fellow natives) already have our social circles and our close friends.

I guess my point is, many of you new folks are breaking ground. Concepts that are perhaps second nature in regions with a higher transient population are new here and you all will need to create things we've not needed before.
