Remember it? I have a now hilarious story of what happened in there once.
My mom walked us all over from Waterloo Street. We went to see that freaky "Hansel&Gretel" flick with those scarry puppet looking people. My mom got us all the candy, and popcorn, and the usher gave us seats. My mom proceeded to say "Hand this down to your brothers". I pass one popcorn. Then I pass the next, and my youngest brother about five at the time says "He ain't here". Now I'm engrossed in the flick, and I just casually say "Here mom blank left". My mom jumps up, and says "What? Where did he go? What do you mean he left?" That brother was six at the time. Well all those ushers with flashlights are looking, and they're searching the bathrooms. We had to leave to call my dad at the precinct cause my mom was freaking out. Here we go outside, and we see my brother just moseying on up Allegheny Avenue. He got his butt beat, and said he just didn't like "Hansel&Gretel". My poor mom. Cool theater. |

The former RKO Stanley Warner's Midway Theatre was one of three theatres owned by Sam Shapiro (who also owned the RKO Stanley Warner's Uptown Theatre and the Merben Theatre) that were not part of Mr. Shapiro's Sameric Theatres chain.

Come to my couch, and I'll analyze that. I know right? We saw Jaws at the Merben. So of course you pretended to be really afraid so you could touch "the boyfriend". Same thing with the Exorcist only I was 13, and was every night for two weeks going in my parents room scarred to death, and getting in at the bottom of the bed. I mean that movie was really frightening. Whoops. Sorry to butt in on The Midway. |

what about the kent movies on kensington ave, down the street from kellys korner?????? we used to go to the gas stations and get free passes for all the saturday matinees. i remember this one halloween show, it was me and my 2 sisters. we were all seated on the lower level waiting for the movie to start. i can't recall what the movie was, something halloweenish. well, the whole place went pitch black, every light was out including the exit signs. everyone started screaming because there were real monsters walking around the floor, being real monstery....... well, i get out of my seat, go behind my sister who was hysterical, and try to lift her out to get her outside. she screamed even louder and started flalling about and crying. i finally got her and my other, we got outside, and i think we ran all the way home........what a great time!
