Well, William Reed, one of the proprietors of the Tap & Johhny Brenda's is married, so perhaps his wife uses a @standardtap email. Or perhaps it was a manager.

Maybe the guys who owned Standard Tap sold it today, and that's why the ad has been pulled. Maybe the woman who answered the phone is the new owner, and she was just covering her tracks because she knows it's illegal to buy and sell restaurant staff. I think that's probably it.

It's a prank. They'd sell the Tap right about the time they'd carve their hearts out with spoons.

For the record, William's wife Liz is also an owner of the Tap; there are also quite a few female managers who could speak confidently about the place not being for sale.

Here's the e-mail I received back from the woman I spoke to on the phone:

Dear [Count],

Thanks so much for the heads-up! Your e-mail was well-timed. Someone else had
told us we were listed, but we were unable to find it online and thought he was
mistaken.

Thanks to you, I was able to warn my staff before others started calling with
offers to buy...That would have been a little unnerving for the employees.

We flagged it as "prohibited" several times, so the listing should be removed
soon.

It's actually a pretty funny hoax when you think about it. Chalk it up to a
little full-moon-Friday-the-13th fun.
