Hi Folks,

A friend of mine recently gossiped that Silk City Diner was in the process of being sold (or possibly just changing themes) with the end result that the diner would change to a Continental Diner style upscale diner model.

My friend did not have any info on any implication for the night club.

Anyone heard anything similar?

It's been sold, yes. The new owner just wants to make the food and service better from what I know.

Thank god. That place has the lowest quality diner food in Philly by far.

Well, I think unless you personally know your waitress, the worst service too.

I have to say that for all its great reputation,
I went there twice and thought both the food and the service were bad.

Hopefully that will change.

brooke: too funny. I go in there once in a while to chill, and choke on cigg smoke. I always make it a point to heckle the waitresses, with the hope that day they will smile.

My ex was a regular so most of them at night got to know me...but forget it if I get one that doesn't. I actually went there for lunch about a month ago and got a sweet waitress...I couldn't believe it.

There is a very nice woman who works there during the day. She has been working there 30 years, or something. Whats her name?

the diner is being sold to a group led by mark bee-the owner of north 3rd.

when i talked to him 2 weeks ago, he mentioned that raising the quality of food, and eliminating the "cheap" drink specials-he specifically mentioned the shot and a beer combo- was his strategy to improve the food.

plus, correcting all the health violations and cleaning the place up.

i haven't been there in years because it was such a pigsty. actually saw a mouse run through the dining room during brunch one time. however, i love n 3rd, and think that mark has created a really great spot there. i'd check it out in the future with him running it.

I too thought the food and service were, let us say, "sub-standard". The mens rest room is quite third world. I presume the womens as well.
