Default It's what you make of it

We rented a place about 6 months ago around Frankford & Allegheny when we moved here from Ohio. We are in the middle of our block with dealers on both corners. Last night there was a fight between the corner boys (White T-Shirt Dudes) and some rival drug dealers. No one got shot and the police scattered the crowd. Is this a bad neighborhood? Heck no.

We sit out at night after dark and talk with our neighbors. We haven't heard any gunfire lately, there hasn't been any break-ins, we don't see the police helicopters to often and most of the people on the block are friendly.

Once our house back in Ohio sells, we are thinking about buying in this neighborhood. Property values are still reasonable, we are close to the Arimingo shopping area (Target opens in Oct.), we have access to the El, and we can even find on street parking 95% of the time.

Do me a favor, if anyone asks what the area is like, tell them that it is a festering spetic tank slum area that only a New Yorker would buy sight unseen. This will keep the area from becoming another overpriced Fishtown.

I'll trade Philly for Cowlumbus anyday.

I think cc is important to the city as a whole but certainly not everyone shoudl want to live here. There are tons of great neighbrohoods in Philly. Unfortunately, North PHilly tends to have some of the more dangerous ones. However, that certainly doesn't mean they all are. I took my first rt 23 ride yesterday. sad, really. Philly must have been a fascinating and beautiful city. the bldgs around broad and erie are unbelievable and germantown and lehigh is a pretty tight spot too. N. Philadelphia train station indicates that N. Philly must have been rather substantial.

Cool

I live in Port Richmond (lived here almost my whole life) and someone above said something about lower-middle class people living here. Think again. A lot of people like living here because the houses are reasonably priced (well, that's going up now because of the hipster overflow from Fishtown, but still), you can walk around at any time of the day or nite and for the most part, not worry about being stabbed or shot (when I lived in Fishtown I didn't feel that way, sorry Fishtowners) and there are bars, schools, parks, churches and all sorts of things right within walking distance. Oh, and people take care of what they have. A lot of people I know like living here because they aren't paying a crazy mortgage and can go and go and do other things like travel or get that giant tv or whatever.

I have a friend who works at a local bank on Allegheny Ave (Washington Savings). She obviously has access to lots of financial info and once told me that Port Richmond has more milionaires living in it then any other neighborhood in the city. Check that out

(I am also excited over Target opening this week! Yay!)

I said lower middle class, which is statistically a fact. That generally covers household income of $0 - $100k. It was not meant as a diss at all. Thats the world I come from and know.

twp pl making $5ok is not lower middle class. I hope the "overflow" from fishtown doesn't kill the pierogie scene.
