I ended up taking the 32, since it was cheapest. It worked out reasonably well. Though some of the nieghborhoods it cruises through are a bit rough, and I was somewhat dressed up, I didn't have a problem using it.

Just as a side note to what el said, the Temple U stop is much closer to my area than North Broad. The latter station is quite farther north up the street, near Lehigh.

one is a walk, one is a ride.
was a friend of yours having a party up there?
I've never heard good things about the walk to Temple's stop but I've never done it.
the neighborhood you are probably thinking of (or hoods) are brewerytown and strawberry mansion that the 32 goes through.

Yeah, just to clear up my motive for catching the bus, I went to a friends house for a ritzy party. This did involve going through Strawberry Mansion, but I sort of live there anyway, so I'm used to the rough parts.

Temple's stop gets a bad rap, but it's really nothing to avoid. On one side of the street you do have to walk past 2 blocks of Temple run public housing (The Cherry and White Housing Project) which is a little run down. Paradoxically, the other side of the street is the Atlantic Terminal and Kardon building luxury student apartment complex. The station itself is well lit, and basically anytime you get off there, you're walking with a bunch of other people that are going to Temple. There is a security kiosk at the bottom of the rail platform as well. My family lives in Bucks County, and I took the R5 to and from Temple numerous times over the school year. I often got back late on Sunday nights, and never had a problem. I suppose I don't look like the easiest target, but I know many others who use the station without incident. Our subway stop is probably the more dangerous of the two.
