Anyone who wants a good deal on good water ice and a fresh soft pretzel head on over to Philly Flavors at 20th and Fairmount. They have probably 10-15 flavors of water ice and about the same amount of homemade ice cream. The owner is a really nice young guy who's trying to get a foothold in the neighborhood.

I just saw this and it definitely deserves a bump. I met him last summer at the Joshua Kahan Fund Super Scooper (I was a volunteer) and my roommate met him this year at the same event. Tried it out and have been back a few times. For three of us to get ice cream / water ice / etc was $7.00. For the size and quality, it just cannot be beat.

i moved up more north and do not go there anymore
but he is indeed a young guy
we bought our birthday cake there last year it was fantastic
and all the ice cream is made on premise!

The guy's name is Damon and he is doing a great job - I'd say he's got a pretty good foothold already. We love Philly flavors and go there regularly!

They make the best ice cream cakes! The water ice is far superior to Rita's.
