Lincoln Steffans wrote Shame of the Cities in 1902 and reffered to Philadelphia as "Corrupt and Content". Since Samuel Ashbridge was Mayor at the time, and is a relative, I feel compelled to comment.

Over 100 years ago the citizens of this great city did nothing to stop the corruption. Are we any different? Philadelphia has a history of being controlled by one party. Although every 50 or 60 years the party changes, the politics continue. Until we the tax paying citizens stand up and say enough is enough, it will continue!

Why can we not have clean streets, alternate side parking, responsible public housing, and a business climate that encourages business and not rapes it to pay for unending programs.

Nutter is trying hard and doing, in my opinion a GREAT JOB. But when are we going to support him and vote idiots and the corruption promoted by the major parties out and demand responsible goverment.

Philadelphia is a WONDERFUL city. It is a major city that still has charm. Lets take it back and make it what it should be!!!

The Barnes is coming. Those idiots will keep filing petitions, and the judge will keep giving them a smackdown. They will start demolishing the YSC in the fall. They moved the sculptures from the back just a few weeks ago.

WF was scheduled to go into a new building at 16th and Vine, that still hasn't broken ground, so I doubt it's moving anytime soon. didn't have anything to do with the Parkway 22 building.

Neiman Marcus = Needless Markup. I'd rather be shopping at Nordstrom's.

As a Spring Garden resident I selfishly look forward to the Barnes on the Parkway. As an American I can't even believe that Dr. Barnes last will and testament has been thrown away because:
  • It was initially a thorn to powerful Lower Merion neighbors.
  • A road block to a pot of gold for the mismanaged board of trustees
  • The city that took advantage of a neighboor and stole the pretty blond when the neighboor was a little boozy and the blond was selling its sole.
  • An opportunity for the Philantropic leaders to get control of something that Dr. Barnes went to great lenghths to see that they did not.
  • A wimpy court system that bowed to the power broker politicians who ultimately control their destiny.

I'll believe it when the YSC actually closes and it is, then, knocked down. Even then I
won't believe it until I see the actual work on the Barnes begin. Consider that
the YSC can be gone, in that location, and still no Barnes being erected
while suits, petitions, to prevent its moving, still go on and on.

Does anyone know more about this? Is this a rumor or is a Trader Joe's at this location definitely happening? That would be totally awesome.

It's rumor for right now. I heard it last year when a friend told me he spoke to someone at the suburu dealership who told him that there was a trader joes coming. I've also heard it was supposed to be a practice space for some sports team or something but we'll see. I looked on Trader Joe's website and they don't list it as a "Coming Soon" location yet so unless I see it there, I'll consider it rumor. But I'd be ecstatic if they opened one there.
