My wife, who is a community gardener herself, pointed out that that plot of land was probably paved at one point and that, in order to get at the soil there, there may need to be some fairly major excavation to pull up old concrete, etc. If your plan goes forward, you'll probably have to bank on some kind of remediation before things can be planted (unless you do raised beds, I guess).

At this point, no one from FESPP has bothered to respond to my emails, so I need to figure out my next move. I will look at the site again - perhaps they have some type of a meeting I +/- others can attend.

I just can't believe that they'd want to let it continue to look the way it does. I realize that change takes time, but it has looked horrendous for a while now.

We would support a community garden and participate. But it would have to be fenced and only gardeners allowed. I am sure the Eastern State land could not be restricted in that manner.
