I've seen discussions on this blog about placing trash receptacles around the neighborhood and now they are a reality...have seen one at 24th & meredith and one at 24th & aspen. This is a very bad idea...anyone who lives in the city knows that when these cans are placed in residential neighborhoods they inevitably become unofficial drop off points for people's trash and garbage. Whoever is responsible for this, please take note of the highly smelly, fly-ridden, overflowing can already stinking up the corner of 24th & Aspen. Fairmounter's have always cleaned their fronts...this is obviously another mis-guided effort to "improve" the neighborhood.

Only in a perfect world. Fairmounters have always cleaned their fronts and picked up trash in front of their homes....even if left by someone else. The can at 24th & Aspen stinks to high-heaven and is already overflowing and fly-ridden. This is not an improvement. If this can were on your corner I guarantee you would not be happy. Take a stroll by...it must be lovely today in this 90 degree heat. My guess is that the gentlemen who tend Ward Park will take it into their own hands to keep it clean...even though it is not their responsiblilty and just because that is what old, "un-improved" Fairmounters have always done. Whoever had these cans placed should now take responsibility for their upkeep.

That's a 'well, duh' point - if you can figure out who installed the can, call them every time it's full and make sure they follow up. |

I would be happy to call them so they may realize their dream of a more improved Fairmount.

Um, not all Fairmounters. Not even close. There is plenty of litter all over the neighborhood.

My Mom and her friends clean their fronts, steps and street regularly...they see trash, they pick it up...this is the Fairmount way. Trash bins on the corners IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD invite household garbage and dog-sh*t baggies...dare I say that dog-owners should take their "poop packages" home to their own trash cans....o, the wrath I will suffer for that thought!! The city will never keep these cans clean and empty and the neighborhood will look (and smell) the worse for it. |
