The one at 24th & Brown is still there. I haven't heard back from the CDC yet, by the way.

Did hear back from the CDC - they weren't the ones to put them out. Tim, the Exec. Director, said they realize that having trash cans out without the funding to empty them just makes the problem worse, so they're working on the funding part first.

His theory was much the same as what's been posted here - that they were put out for the 4th. I didn't notice if there was still a trash can at 24th & Brown today - does anyone else still have one near them? If there are any left and they're not being emptied, I can contact the Streets Dept. and say we want them either emptied or removed. Post here with your updates.

Default Was a can at Brown and Corinthian

There was a Can at the corner of the north bound side of the street (Corinthian and Brown) and a note said by the "block captain" was going to try to do the up keep.
Then one day someone cut the cable on it and moved it to the other side of the street. Then I turned around and it was gone.

I asked a guy who lives on the corner I know and he said someone stole it.

There also needs to be a can back on the corner of Brown and Corithian and also in the middle of the block of Corinthian (btwn Fairmount and Brown).
When there was a Dog park at the Eastern State Penn, there were 4 trash cans. Obviously the cans were for poop but if someone put other trash in them, it was better in the can than on the streets or in the sewers. People in the neighborhood would dispose of the trash when the cans were filled and put them on the corner when it was trash day.
Fairmount use to work together!

seriously. If the city doesn't have money to empty them, how about the people on the blocks, who benefit from not having garbage all over their block, empty them. I would empty one on garbage night!

I walked 8 blocks in Center City on Saturday with a cup in my hand, waiting to pass a garbage can. 8 BLOCKS! and the whole time I kept wanting to just put it on a ledge, in a bus stop, or and in a little nook (terrible, I know). But truthfully, I understood first hand why there is garbage all over the city: it is really annoying to have to carry your garbage around until you FINALLY pass a can!
