As I've said elsewhere, I've no problem with people not wearing helmets on public roads so long as they are properly insured to cover long-term care resulting from a traumatic head injury.

In other words, if you (and I don't care if you're a cyclist or a motorcyclist) become a vegetable because you weren't wearing a helmet, I don't want to have to pay (directly or indirectly) for your nursing home care.

Oh yes you will... when you pay your insurance.

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA:

In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking
Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk

Actually, medical expenses are higher for motorcyclists wearing helmets because they are more likely to survive with catastrophic injuries. Without a helmet, they're more likely to die.

Here's an idea, how about holding car drivers who are usually responsible for accidents between cars and motorcycles responsible for their actions, and require them to carry enough insurance?

That would be nice....

On a related note, I can't tell you how many times I've nearly been run over at the clusterf*ck of a corner at 15th and Vine. People make left turns onto Vine from the middle and even far right lane on 15th Street! They'll cut right in front of pedestrians too. A pedestrian bridge there would be great. There's enough foot traffic with hospital employees and medical students crossing Vine Street that it would get plenty of use.
