So...this is kind of weird. I was walking down 18th by Mt. Vernon, across from the school playground and two women were standing on the corner, smoking a joint. One of them was wearing a crossing guard vest and checking for traffic.
For one thing, I thought that school was out, but there were kids at the playground, so maybe they have a summer program. Secondly, I'm all for legalization, but I have a gigantic problem having a hophead in charge of the safety of children crossing the street. Any suggestions on the proper channels to report this?

I would love to know too..For a different reason..The 2 of them (the crossing guards) yelled at me last week saying I ddin't stop at the stop sign long enough..Then they both kept yelling about me while I was 2 feet away ..So we got in a bit of a yelling match since I told her I heard her the first 5 times ...she was sitting around yelling and cursing at me as kids were walking themselves across the street..She was threatening to call the cops on me for the stop sign thing..I guess since I am not one of her homies...I will say though that I have noticed the people who clean up the streets wear those vests as well however none are women..I see and talk to them every day.

They are employees of the Police Department, call the 9th District. Or report them at www.ppdonline.org

The crossing guard on the other side of the park at 19th and Mount Vernon could not be better. She is extreamly attentive and great with the kids. It is a challenging corner as no stop sign exists south on 19th. She is also pleasant to adults and keeps an eye out for any nonsense.
This is an example of when somebody goes above and beyond we should also let the right people (her supervisors) know. |

You know, it may or may not, but the point is, it is illegal and they are the stewards of children and should set a better example. If they can't, or at least can't confine themselves to private settings to partake, then they shouldn't be in that job.

Maybe, maybe not. I tend to think that pot smoking should be legal. Following an unjust law just because it's "the law" doesn't seem like a virtue we want to pass down to me, but of course, ymmv.
Even if I did believe that it was wrong, I would tend not to want to **** with someone else's livelihood, especially in this economy. It may be wrong, but I would feel too bad about causing that kind of upset in someone's life for what seems like a small slight. |

Pot smoking can be legalized when scientists are able to determine appropriate levels of intoxication, and methods to measure, the way we can with alcohol, or else we won't really know how impaired people are to operate motor vehicles and heavy equipment. As it stands, it is illegal, and they are employees of the PPD. If they don't respect what they do, then the hell with them, they lose their ability to make their livelihood at it.
