**** her, I would. And I would have no sypmathy for her in doing so. The city is paying her to work, not to smoke pot. If she can't go a few hours without smoking weed or wait until the evening to do so, then get somebody in there who can.

I'm not ant-weed, but getting high on the job really isn't much different than drinking on the job. Especially when dealing with kids safety. Some jobs it really doesn't much matter if you are high or not. Crossing guards isn't one of them.

I consider myself the #1 pot advocate on this board and I say report her. There is no reason why someone should be smoking weed around kids. Its also not addictive so she can easily wait until she gets home at night. Pot around kids is not cool.

This person is a complete disgrace to NORML and their misison to decriminalize pot.

Just out of curiosity, since you did report it (which I agree is the right thing to do), did you specify which guards were the pot smokers with a description and all?

All this talk about people's livlihood... it'd be a shame for the wrong people to get fired. But I suppose a simple drug test and/or investigation could prevent that.

The crossing guard at 18th & Mt Vernon has been the same person for several years.

So, do you all think that parents who smoke pot should have them removed too? You know, since smoking leaves you unable to care for children.

That's a ridiculous statement. Alcohol is legal but someone who drinks on that job should be fired. Weed is illegal yet someone who smokes should not be fired? When you involved in the safety of children you should not be impaired.

Another situation...you hire someone to babysit for you. You somehow find out that they were drunk and or high...you would be fine with that?

I would not be.

I was about to say more or less the same exact thing. I'm all for legalizing pot, but at the same time, I'd love to criminalize stupidity. Smoking pot while on the job - especially a job where you are supposed to be guarding the safety of others (children, no less) is about as stupid as one can be.

Alchohol is legal, but if she was drinking booze while trying to do that same job, that would be illegal. Same should go for pot, even if it was legalized.

Crossing guards are assigned to designated corners which tend not to change.

Wow. I've seen some stupid sh&t, but this thread takes the cake. Marijuana should be legal, therefore smoking pot while working as a crossing guard should be legal? Should it be legal to drink and guard? I know, let's let them do opium to make the time go by. How about meth so they stay awake? Coke? Is heroine ok as long as they're not dropping out? Anyone who thinks marijuana doesn't impair the fundamental senses needed to be a crossing guard has got to be stoned.
