No, you just said that complaining about bad behavior was nitpicky.

I'm not being nitpicky. I think climbergirl said it best "people who either walk 3-4 abreast, or who are just stationary, milling about blocking the entire sidewalk". This would not be a flow but a standstill. Maybe I'll just park my car on 76 next time and make people go around me.

I think complaining about the flow of traffic on Kelly Drive is a bit nitpicky, wouldn't you say?

Are there warning signs posted? I remember seeing one sign with a list of details on how to safely use the path. But there should be signs reminding pedestrians, rollerbladers, and first time path users to look behind them before "changing lanes" so to speak. Not just to make it easier for cyclists, but for the safety of everyone.

I rode a bike for the first time ever on Kelly Drive over the weekend. The groups of people taking up the sidewalk wasn't only annoying but when they're walking towards you and don't move so you can get by, that's just rude.

There used to be a lot of signs posted with some rules: "Single File Only" and "Slower Traffic Keep Right" or similar next to the path. I think there's still a few, but not many are left.

I have to agree with Billy, it would be great to have more room and a dedicated bike path.

Also annoying is when someone's taking up a lot of the path and you can't get around them because they're wearing an Ipod and can't hear you.

Here's an idea, How about the bicycles get off the sidewalk and ride in the street with the rest of the vehicles where they belong?

I guess you didn't read this threads title. We are talking about the Kelly Drive Path.

In front of the boathouses it is more of a sidewalk and less of a bike trail, although the bikers haven't figured it out yet. The sidewalk in front of the boathouses was there long before the Valley Forge trail. When the trail was built, a decision was made to use the inadequate sidewalk in front of the boathouses; a dedicated bike lane should have been built. Think about it: for long stretches there is a macadamized trail and a gravel trail next to it. Giving the bikes their own lanes is much safer.

It's a bike path. And bikes are actually prohibited from being in the road at certain hours. Those hours are posted on signs, but basically rush hour (when many folks are out biking).

Far safer, but I'm sure it was $$ savings to have only one path. Also when it was first constructed, it wasn't used nearly as much as it is today.

I stay on the MLK side, where it is safer from other people exercising, but it might not be as safe from people with bad intent.
