The eclectic selection was TLA's main virtue. I felt guilty using On Demand instead, since I like supporting a place that offers off-beat stuff along with the mainstream, but it was in fact hard to justify going out to the store when you could just push a few buttons on the remote and get the movie delivered direct to the cable box.

Any idea what would be replacing those stores?
Spring Garden needs more ground level retail as it is, losing a few stores is going to hurt.

Not yet. I'd actually like to see another nice restaurant. There aren't enough in the
immediate area.

Nothing has been picked to replace it yet. The buildings management had sent a letter to residents about 3 weeks ago asking what they would like to see replace the video store...

Has anyone ever used TLA's movie downloads from their website?

http://www.tlavideo.com/home/21-0_on...d.html?sn=3809

It doesn't look like they have everything on there yet, but it's a good start...

I don't watch enough movies to justify the cost (however small) of Netflix, and the cable in my house is the wrong kind for on-demand--the TLA was perfect for me! I guess I have to get to that rewiring project now.

I will definitely miss all the really helpful folks who worked there. I've seen some amazing movies because of them, which is something that never happened when I lived near a Blockbuster.

If the rumors are true and the Ice Cream/Water Ice stand is closing up (full disclosure even though I live a block away from 18th & Spring Garden, I ALWAYS make the hike up to Philly Flavors on Fairmount). I'd love to see a flower/gift shop open in that location, with the number of higher-end condos/apartments that the Barnes Tower might add, the Tivoli right there and of course Museum Towers itself a flower shop would make sense (I look at the number of flower shops rittenhouse supports)

As for the TLA storefront, as much as a restaurant would be nice, I think Callowhill has already added some nice dining options to the area. What would be nice would be for the liquor store on Fairmount to close and move down to Spring Garden and turn into one of the bigger "super state stores" with a deep wine selection. But if I were a betting man, I'd guess a CVS/Walgreens will try to cram themselves in there OR a bank (if its a bank, please be Bank of America)

Sabrina's is always jammed now. We need more restaurants in the area.

Isn't there a florist in the 2000 block of Hamilton?

Now, the liquor store idea, I like!

I hope to Christ it doesn't become another chain store location.

The bank idea I don't care about although it might be good for other neighbors.

They are selling off their inventory starting July 15. I posted the sign on my blog. It also states that if you have a rental card you can use it at their other stores.

Basically I want to buy all the film noir they've got! Next a big chunk of the
"Hollywood classics" since a lot of you don't deal with black and white films
that makes it easier for me. Some Japanese(Kurosawa) and British films. Some
TV series, maybe.
