True, knowing it could be worse doesn't mean we should settle for letting it happen. Something needs to change...like Lee's Kitchen...

On the lighter side, actually I really like Lee's Kitchen (armed robberies, high customers, etc not withstanding). The shrimp lomein is tasty and the fried dumplings are awesome. The folks who own it have always been nice. It sucks, though, they they have to run it from behind a plexiglass barricade (same for the corner stores on Girard).

Unfortunately there has been increased gang activity in that area. This shooting is likely related to the on going battles that have been going on up there in the last few months.
Obviously the police are aware of it and the Commissioner has taken steps to address it.
The residents can help out by reporting everything they see to 911, especially groups hanging in the area.
Because of the activity in that area, I've been sent up there quite a few nights in the last few weeks.
Any residents who have a problem or information and are wary of calling 911 can PM me here and I'll look into it or pass it on to the appropriate Unit in the PD or other agencies to address it. I have to give my usual disclaimer that I can promise the results you are seeking, but I'll do what I can or steer you in the right direction.
It takes the neighbors to take back the neighborhood so to speak, but we will be there to help.

Cheers to the PPD's swift response to this crap. Please check into the activity on the SW corner of 29th/Cambridge and the North side of 30th between Cambridge and Poplar. 3-10 guys on either corner with multiple vehicles stopping for something all afternoon. Seems fishy and maybe related to Weds. shooting.

Actually, four of five of those nondescript new houses are sold.Twentythird and Brown is in terms of culture and safety light years away from 29th and Girard.

Besides there is always Jumbo's. Those guys will take care of any problems.

There are 2 townhomes just north of Poplar on 30th on the west side with Prudential sale/rent signs. They've been there for over a year with those signs and there are always people loitering in front of them.

Agreed.

I also think shootings do not help; but that might just be me.

There are a number of 3-4 bed renovated rowhouses in Fairmount for that price or less in what is in my opinion a nicer part of town; I doubt the parking does not off set the shootings for most people. They might sell at $470
