I agree that simply trying to get money from drivers at intersections will always be looked at as a scam and any adult attempting to defend this behavior need his/her head examined. It's downright dangerous and foolish.
Youth sports teams, firehouses, and charities have been doing this for years but its only recently that people are calling them scams. Were they scams when they were done 10-20 years ago? No, just a way to raise money.

As for me needing my head examined, I've been told that before.

Everytime a kid approaches you for money on a city street, it's a scam, period. I played a lot of youth sports as a kid and we had to have a collection once each season. So we teamed up and went door to door solicting donations. We never, ever ran around in traffic collecting money. The fact that these kids are so overly aggressive about it, tells you it's a scam. When you give these kids money, all you're doing is teaching them that crime pays. In these situations, I normally ask the kid a few questions about the team, the league, the position they play, etc. Rarely can they answer any questions. Most of the time they just walk away beacuse they know I'm not falling for the scam.

n4100,
It was approved in dec of 2007. I was surprised as well-I heard about it being proposed but didn't realize it got passed until around March.

There's a problem with wanting the parents pay for their kid...half these inner-city kids don't have parents who can afford it, that's why they are playing sports for the school and not some club.

Uh, it is outlawed once and for all...I showed the law.
