So, basically your asking for a recommendation of a local BYO, that isn't actually one of the local BYOs.
Interesting. I'll ponder that one, but I have a feeling you ruled out pretty much every walkable BYO thats actually worth going to. Except for Umai Umai, which you've already said you don't really care for. Oh, wait! There's also Zorba's. I love their grilled octopus... __Jason

Think you are going to struggle by counting out the best BYOB's in the area and not willing to cab it somewhere.

I think the restaurant is much bigger than you realize. When I was there with a group of 8 (in a side room) there was a group of maybe 20+ in another room - they own the house next door and it's all connected.

There is a nice table in the back of Zorbas side room that can sit 8 easily, I've seen more than that at that table.
They have pretty good food too. I'm a fan. |

Ah, that I did not realize, I was in for lunch and didn't see another room.

Looking for something a little nicer. I'll give you more background. Wifie is graduating May 16th and we are having all the families in. So I want something a little nice, but I want to bring my own wine (we have expenses.) If it were just me parking would not be a problem. But we have visitors from out of town. So I don't mind driving anywhere in Philly. Just needs to have parking nearby. Or heck, I suppose I could break down and valet. Problem is most BYOBs dont take reservations.

Tried to post this earlier - don't think it took.
Anyway - if you do choose Zorba's (which I like, but think it's a bit pricey for what they offer), hear my cautionary tale: My husband & I went there a couple of years ago, bringing one of our old standby wines (so we know the general quality very well). The waiter took it away to open it. When we drank it, the wine tasted like a pale replica of what we knew - it seemed to us to be watered down. We haven't been back for dinner since, because I can't figure out the nice way to ask the waiter to uncork the bottle in front of us. |

One place that's not too far is Sazon - http://www.sazonrestaurant.com/
I also like Nan a lot; we often go there when there's an event at Penn. http://www.nanrestaurant.com/ There's so many good BYOBs in the city (egullet or chowhound might be able to help you), but I've taken some older family to those two and parked near them. Nan takes reservations; I would imagine that Sazon would also. BTW, one time we took a group of 35 to Zorba's. We weren't all at one table, but they did a very good job of serving us. |
