A couple of other BYOBs that take reservations: Roselena's (http://www.restaurant.com/microsite.asp?rid=315991) and Franco & Luigi’s (http://www.francoandluigis.com/).
I’ve taken older groups to both and they enjoyed them. Franco & Luigi’s seems to get mixed reviews, and I haven’t been there in a couple of years, but it was great fun when we went several times.

Nan is a great restaurant...It is on Chesnut St. Not too far..Easy parking on Market St. And their Pad Thai is one of the best. It is a fine dining experience, I think it will be perfect for a celebration.

I also like Nan a lot; we often go there when there's an event at Penn. http://www.nanrestaurant.com/

There's so many good BYOBs in the city (egullet or chowhound might be able to help you), but I've taken some older family to those two and parked near them. Nan takes reservations; I would imagine that Sazon would also.

BTW, one time we took a group of 35 to Zorba's. We weren't all at one table, but they did a very good job of serving us.

Bring your own wine key. Open it yourself before they even get a chance.

Modo Mio is the best BYO we've tried in Philly. They should be able to handle a large group pretty easily, and they take reservations. Great service and outstanding, yummy food at excellent prices.

It is Italian, though.

It's not in the prettiest area, 2nd and Girard, but it's easy to park on Girard.

Nan is one of our favorites but you must drive to 40th and Chestnut. The last time we went and could not find parking, we bought a few items at the Fresh Grocer and were able to park for free. That was over a year ago however.

I have heard great things about Modo Mio but I also heard it is not easy to get a reservation.

My top byob within walking distance would be Zorba's . We have often met there with groups of eight for dinner. If you can get a table on the second level in the back you almost feel as if you are in your own private dining room. Delicious food and we have never had a problem with service.

At 3rd & Girard is Las Cazuelas (sp?) where we've always found a welcoming staff, good Mexican food and BYOB. Never had a problem parking on Girard.

What night of the week are you going out? If it's a Sunday or Monday there are places with a liquor license that let you BYOB on Sundays and Mondays. Sounds like you are looking at a Fri or Sat night but on the off chance it's a Sun or Mon, there are some really nice places where you can bring a great bottle of your own wine. Sometimes I've heard it's restricted to only what's not on their list though.

Nan is great, but that weekend (May 16-19) is alumni weekend at Penn, so Univ City is going to be jammed packed with people. You might want to keep that in mind...

Many BYO's will take reservations for parties of 8 or more - just call and ask - inevitably some will not - but I have had good luck with calling the places directly!

Good Luck!

Default trio = still the best bet.

i still think you should go to trio, and pop a few tums!

if you think the other 7 people would like it, i think it is your best bet. it's large enough, service is fast, maybe you could reserve the deck if it is nice out, BYOB, great food.... if it is only your tummy holding you back, i say go! it's in the neighborhood!! there's got to be something there you can eat.

i wasnt sure if you ruled out L'Oca. i have been there a few times and it was pretty yummy! and with BYO and tip, each person only spent $20-$25 each.
