The bar itself is fine, good service and a decent choice of beer. The style of music a bar chooses doesn't bother me, just so long as I don't have to shout at my friend next to me to be heard.

In the interest of wanting all Fairmount businesses to be successful, here are a few tips for Urban Saloon:
1. Change the name. 2. Focus on the food. Bring in a young chef looking to make their mark in the restaurant world. Aim for Standard Tap quality or at least near-quality. 3. HINT: Fill a neighborhood need and start serving Mexican food! 4. Open the front to be more connected to the street. This would involve some expense, but I'd put in big windows that can be opened on nice days, with sidewalk dining. 5. Let someone else pick the music. |

I like Urban Saloon, but you have to understand where you are. I remember being in a pub in Scotland, and the waitress said that the day's special was chicken tikka masala. No thanks!
Likewise, at Urban, don't order the burrito or the lasagna or the crab cakes! Order the burger or the sasuage sandwich. It's only sensible. That said, I am in general agreement with everyone on their weekend menu. Yesterday at 2 pm with some amazing sports on the TVs (the best match of tennis ever played, the Phils game, and the Cards-Cubs game), they are still pushing eggs! And let me tell you, nobody was there! In closing, stop the madness. |

I happen to like Urban Saloon (and I'm not a 22 year old). For all of you people talking about "stopping the madness!!" and "it's bound to close if that keeps up!!" - that's your right to hope for a place to fail because you don't like it, I guess. But your tastes aren't everyone else's. I happen to hate sushi and think it's the most overrated food that 'hip' people all gush over because their friends do. Point is, I don't go around ripping Umai because their menu isn't varied enough for me. I simply go somewhere else. Same goes for Rembrandts or Aspen or London, to a certain extent (in that they're not as specialized as Umai). There's stuff on those menus I like and stuff I don't. Urban Saloon (to me) is a bar that happens to serve reasonably priced food. I don't go looking for a gourmet meal. I'm amazed by the posts on here where people (1) thought it would be anything special food-wise and (2) thought the place would change it's menu based on their message-board posts. In closing, just shut up about it and go somewhere else. If your as right as you think you are, the place will be closed in a month anyway and you can scream "I TOLD YOU SO!" ... to each other.

The only thing you were trying to communicate with that post was "I hate uppity yuppies who think they are better than me".
Urban Saloon was merely the vehicle for which to express it. I think we all hate uppity yuppies, but better to rip them for tapas as opposed to sushi. Because sushi is great and tapas is just ridiculious. Just want to help you since Fox News Class Warfare School is out for the summer. |
