ANYTHING that turns away a potential buyer should be removed. Teddy I believe you are a renter so you probably don't care about resale or property value. What purpose does it serve other then to piss people off? You are not going to "change" anybody's vote by having a sign in your window. People have deep feelings when it comes to political candidates, almost as strong as they do about dogs and dog poop. You should be a good neighbor and do everything you can to keep our community clean and the houses selling. Obama says he wants to help homeowners and the economy … do your part and take down your sign!

Right, because the only permissible signs are FORECLOSURE signs.
Correct? Quote:

Right, I definitely wouldn't want to buy in a neighborhood where I might be surrounded by civic minded voters, those involved community people make terrible neighbors, always voting, participating in local government, and block cleanups. Who wants to live next to that?

Hmmm...must have struck a chord, NoRealConcerns, I see you are a first-time poster here. I wonder who tipped you off?
Its true, I rent my unit, but that doesn't make me any less of a neighbor: shoveling out my next-door neighbor when her car was stuck, helping someone shimmy into their unit because they were locked out, shoveling my neighbor's steps after a snowstorm when the groundspeople were nowhere to be found... I have put sweat-equity into our unit with the support of my landladies: fresh paint, new fixtures, new woodwork/trim. I have done many routine repairs without bothering them (other than telling them I was going to do them). I have waited for Westrum contractors for them (that never showed in one case). Do not, under any circumstances, beleive for a minute that I don't have some investment in our unit and neighborhood. I was at City Hall on 2/7/07 with my BTS neighbors. I am also near-flawless in my poop-collecting record: my only gaffe was last month when I went out thinking the poop station had bags and there were none. I was late for the bus so I marked the poop and came out with an extra bag when I got home after work. There are 6 properties in the complex listed online. 4 are new construction/unsold, 2 appear to be resale. There are 7 ads in the last week that appear to be different units for rent on Craigslist, so I guess more renters will be a-comin'. According to the Westrum site, 18 properties are available and 122 are sold. The property values seem to be holding just fine in a slow market. If you really want to address values and resale, demand that the HVAC issue be resolved in a SAFE and COST EFFECTIVE manner and do something about the train noise. Last year I was approached twice by people who were looking at the property and they asked me what I felt. I told them: I love the location, I love the layout, I love my neighbors, I tolerate the train noise, and my office is cold in the winter and here's why (did not go into detail about the conversations between owners and Westrum). Although I am vocal, stubborn, and at times a bit scatter-brained, I do recognize gamesmanship when I see it. Since I have the most signs right now, you know where I live and you can come visit me one evening after work and we can chat about it. We've actually thought about buying a Lager unit next year when we will have our purchase power ready to go. We've also considered the East Falls property as a possibility too. But given how the current owners have been treated and my apparent second-class status, I'm not so sure. Civic-minded people: Hillary's office is at Spring Garden and Delaware. If you want signs you can go there or ask me and I'll get them from my friend on the campaign. I don't know where McCain or Nader's offices are or I'd give you the addresses here. Is Larry West running for something this fall? Last edited by TeddyP27 : 04-03-2008 at 03:44 PM. Reason: addendum |

Many condo assn's and communities forbid this stuff just as they do canvassing, lit drops etc. The best way to combat it is to have a rep(or candidate) from whichever campaign attend a condo assn. meeting. All of the ones I have dealt with have NEVER had a problem with that and usually welcome it.

There was red "bought" sign on one of the center units last month. I don't know if its still there. I spoke to my condo association rep on Saturday and last night. I shared with her that out of 5 cases (she's a lawyer) in the last few years that I could find without legal-specific research, 3 ruled in favor of the residents being able to post signs within certain guidelines and that the association could not bad them outright (they could restrict size, quantity, and how long they were up). I am not going to make a long-drawn out battle about this, but I will continue to voice my opinion when there is an active legal debate on the issue.
At least I didn't put my "brrrrrr....its cold in here!" sign on my office like I wanted to! That would definitely been against the rules! (unless I painted it with a darker white on my white mini-blinds) |
