My boyfriend went in and asked how much a memberships would cost. The man at the desk said he'd need to take a tour of the gym first. He's not fond of savvy sales tactics so he simply left.
But now I'm thinking about a new gym membership since it's only 2 blocks away. Does anyone know how much it costs? Are the classes included? Any pros or cons to the gym I should consider before signing up? Thanks in advance for your help! |

the owner is NOT easy going and really has a hold on our neighborhood workout scene. good luck trying to get something like a freeze on your account if you go away or something. that happened to my friend, who worked out there for 5+ years and was going away for a month. plus, one of his associates made my old sweetheart g/f cry on her second visit. i boycotted him long ago.
he needs some good old fashion competition in the neighborhood. |

I couldn't agree more with antibooster. I also boycotted Lifesport after one too many unpleasant encounters with the owner. I keep hoping that Sweat will expand into Fairmount and provide some reasonbly priced competition, but alas, it hasn't happened yet.

Agreed. The only time the owner showed any interest whatsoever when I worked out there a couple of winters ago was when I called to quit. Then it was like trying to cancel your Comcast account, if you know what I mean. Nasty guy.
Also, the place is a mommy and baby hell. |

Wow! I don't mind lifesport at all for those reasons. I've been a member there for 8 months or so (came from Sweat when we moved to the neighborhood). My problem with the place has nothing to do with the people, they've always been plenty nice. The environment is fine. My issue is that the equipment is a little old fashioned. Their dumbells are pretty old and most of the money it seems is spent on cardio equipment.
But it's so cheap! I think I pay $75 a month or so for me and my boyfriend. |

Hey Antibooster maybe you should take over all the businesses in Fairmount, show 'em how it's done. You've already completely trashed Ali-s Wagon in another thread, calling her a "biaotch". Now it's Lifesport's ownership you have a problem with. And in the bakery thread you've even set the tone that the new bakery had better get their s**t straight, and that the owners had better be decent & polite (in your mind). Do you just complain about everything or are these legit? Makes me wonder ... I'm a member of Lifesport and have never had a problem. Also been in Ali's Wagon and found the people working there to be quite helpful.

Goota agree with hollyd on this one. I've never had a bad expeienced or noticed anyone in any kind of disagreement with the owner, he's always been pretty cool with us when he's there. Some of the equipment is on the older side and there is a sign-up sheet now for the more popular stuff, so you only get half an hour on some if others are waiting, but that's only really an issue at peak times between 5 and 6:30.
At 900 bucks a year for 2 people you won't get better value, I don't have monthly payments coming out, so I don't forsee a cancelation problem (anyone ever tried to cancel at a WOW gym, how they are in business is beyond me), but if I do cancel I'll be sure to make my feelings very clear should there be a problem. The owner said he needed 1 months notice. |
