Default flat screen

I have been putting off buying a flat screen b/c I despise the amt of research involved. LCD or plasma? 37"...47"...ect. Panasonic or Toshiba...AHHHHH. Does anyone love their flat screen or know of a place where they got a reasonable deal?
thanks

The most important thing was a 42" tv that took up no space. With a great picture. about 3 years ago I bought a DELL H D plasma, about 3K. Sadly the first one lasted for 6 mons., DELL did replace it and sent reps to set up the new one. Happily, this one is problem free. Would I ever buy a TV via the mail again, NO. IMO I like the plasma because of viewing angles, brightness and blacks, LCD's are limited you have to be right in front to get the best view. I'm sure in the last 3 yrs T V's came a long way.

We have an Aquos 36" flat screen that I love (bought it about 3 years ago). It doesn't take up that much space and most importantly for me, it does not dominate our small rowhouse living room.

I work at Best Buy and I know a lot about TV's so let me give you the main things you need to get -

1. MAKE SURE IT IS BRAND NAME!!! - Don't cheap out when buying an LCD TV, if your investing in something spend a little mor eon a sony or sharp etc. dont get olevia, westinghouse or any other cheap brand. Sony is the best if you have the money. Name brands have newer technology and the picture always looks better. plus they usually have better refresh rates, but SONY Bravia TV's are the only ones to have 120ms respnsoe time, which in laimens terms is AMAZING QUALITY!!! esp. w/ blue-ray discs

2. GET LCD - LCD has become the standard. Plasmas are good but LCD have gotten better, and DLP and projection TVS are unreliable and the picture isnt as good.

3. BUY THE EXTENDED WARRENTY - I know some people say otherwise and I know you think I might just be trying to sell Best Buy services etc. but no, the service plan is well worth it let me tell you form my own exp. and what cust have gone through. If you TV breaks outside of accidenst, youre covered. I know from what I've seen most of the time the TV is replaced rather then Repaired. This is due to the cost of parts. About 1 out of every 6 people that bring there TV's in for service end up getting a junkout and they get a new one. and you can do this as much as needed withen the service plan, and you can renew them as well. Also, you should see the look on peoples fced that bring in there TV's with no service plan when we tell them how much it would costs to fix.

so all in all buy a name brand (sony if you can), get an LCD, get at least 32", if going higher make sure its FULL HD 1080P, and BUY THE SERVICE PLAN/EXTENDED WARRENTY!!

Sounds like you may be an exception for a Best Buy(or most chain stores) employee since most are pretty much uninformed and if you ask them anything close to technical question they're dumbfounded. I still remember the one idiot telling me a few years ago about how the gas in the plasma sets will need periodic "re-charging". I agree with LCD over plasma, I have 2 LG's and love both of them. Almost went with the Sharp Aquos it was a hard decision and it was the only other one I considered. Extended warranties are also advisable on a big ticket item like this. There's also the Vizio option if price is a concern, don't know too much about them but for the lower(price) end they seem to be getting nothing but great reviews. There's a couple good websites out there that can be of a huge help without attempting to get the info from one that also wants to sell you one.

LG makes a very good overall TV. There LCDs have a lot of features and the picture quality is pretty good. There are better brands out there if you have the money, but if you're only getting a 32"-42" then an LG will be perfect for you.

Although there are good brands out there, for LCD TV's the best you can get is a SONY BRAVIA. They are simply amazing tvs. They are a little pricey, but well worth it. Pretty much everything Sony is the best, and it shows with there tvs. When your shopping for one take a look at the differences and youll see what I'm talking about.

damn I sound like a sony rep haha

I saw that Samsung is making a model that uses LED's for a light source. The cost was the same as the Sony.
