Sony is the best if you have the money. Name brands have newer technology and the picture always looks better. plus they usually have better refresh rates, but SONY Bravia TV's are the only ones to have 120ms respnsoe time, which in laimens terms is AMAZING QUALITY!!! esp. w/ blue-ray discs
That is funny, most of the LCD TV are made by the no names then Sony or Phillips just slaps their name on it and calls it a day.

and on Plasmas vs LCD:

LCD is catching up to Plasma, but right now, Plasma still has the edge(specially Pioneer's Kiro iPhone thin plasmas).

Its a debate, people have their preferences.

Me?
Having owned a plasma I would only buy an LCD
LCD wiegh less
Plasmas amy seem to cost less, but they really don't. Plasmas suck an amazing amount of electricity.

Lastly, plasmas have a half life of 5 years.
Yep, only five years.

What that means is that in five years the picture will be half as bright. So, you bought that plasma because it looked so crisp in the show room. Just wait a few years.

Funny, consumer reports would disagree with you. At least in value.

120ms response time.
Holy **** that sucks! Your videos must be blurry and distorted!
Minimal should be one tenth that. Preferably 1/20th that.

I just bought a Vizio 42" LCD, paid just over $1000 bucks for it. Its got a great picture, the set looks nice and it wasnt all that expensive. My neighbor bought a 46" Sony Bravia, also a great looking set, fantastic picture. He also paid about $1300 more for his. I can see a difference in the picture but I don't think its worth paying almost 150% more for. Go to an electronic store and check a few out, Samsung has a few nice ones too

My $.02...

We did the research and ended up with a Sony Bravia and are pretty happy with it. It is a 42" and we paid about $1,600 and they threw in a very nice stand; we didn't want it mounted on the wall. We did get sucked into the brand because we have a lot of Sony stuff (camcorder, higher-end camera, Vaio desktop computer, VCR/DVD combo, etc.) and we've had such good luck with all of it. We know we are spending for the brand name and the advertising, but we are willing to do it.

The plasma screen had so much glare on the screen that it would have been a problem in our bright living room. We can also see the picture from way off the to the side, so I think this has improved from earlier models.

In the end, anything was better than the relic we were watching. We don't watch tons of TV and we aren't gamers, so our demands are not as high, perhaps.

no competition. any real techie knows SONY is best.

LCD vs Plasma...that's a debate. but, bottom line, LCD uses MUCH more energy, which is better for the environment and your wallet.

personally, have the 46" sony bravia and LOVE IT!

btw, many people also don't realize that you get a better quality picture with your antenna on the roof than with cable or satellite. reason for this apparently has something to do with the less amount of compression required in the antenna signal than with cable/satellite.

i have 14 channels using my antenna and get NO, repeat, NO blurriness, pixels distortions, etc. 99.9 percent of the time. every blue moon i'll get a little pixelation, but not the regular and constant problem that i see my cable friends have.

if i had to chose, i say screw comcast and go satellite.

Although there are good brands out there, for LCD TV's the best you can get is a SONY BRAVIA. They are simply amazing tvs. They are a little pricey, but well worth it. Pretty much everything Sony is the best, and it shows with there tvs. When your shopping for one take a look at the differences and youll see what I'm talking about.

damn I sound like a sony rep haha
Some of you may remember the GoldStar brand. Afaik, Goldstar morphed into the
LG brand. I still have a Goldstar that's almost *14* years old. I've never had a problem
with it which is why I will probably get an LG LCD later this year.

.
Other way around
Plasma uses a lot more, Plasma even requires electricity to set a black spot.
