what sucks is that the window costs way more then anything they will ever get out of your car, unless you leave an ipod out in the open. i had my window busted for $1.50 in loose change sitting on my seat, the window cost me $150! this was in port richmond. we have never had a problem on our block. our neighbor does contract work and leaves stuff out all night all the time. nothing like hand tools but shovels and masonru equipment. i tell my tennants to not leave anything in their cars but some supprisingly do and nothing happens, go figure.

29th& Girard isn't bad, there are several great stop-n-go's, with cheap 40's, and ok hoggies, a trolley over to broad street and lots of crack whores along 33th st, on a scale of 1-100 I'll give it a 84

Earl isn't bad. He's just a self-righteous bore who was never right for this area and ran away to the magical fairyland of Glenside.

It is true that there are 2 stop-and-go's, but there was really no reason to add snide commentary about crack whores to a post about 29th and Girard. 33rd and Girard is parkland with a great piece of public art. If there is an issue with 33rd at all it is much farther north, where there are also driving ranges and a great frisbee golf course.

Besides, some of us like "ok hoggies" and beers every once in a while.

Yes, things do happen, but they happen EVERYWHERE, including in presumably safe and stable neighborhoods like Fairmount. To read that you actually have streets mapped out in your mind that you will not cross is VERY, VERY sad. Where do you think you are? You're in Fairmount? If you're that afraid of streets a block or two from your house, you should move to Gladwyne or Ardmore. By the way, the shooting you referred to, was the result of a scuffle between two men in Lee's Chinese Kitchen on 29th Street right below Girard Avenue. I don't know the latest details, but apparently one guy tried to rob another guy while he was waiting for Chinese food, and during the scuffle (caught clearly on the store camera), one guy got shot in the leg.

To the young couple that is thinking of moving to 29th and Girard...go for it. You currently live in what's called "The Bottom". That is a FAR worse place than 29th and Girard. And by the way, there are many, many young white singles/couples moving to that particular block you're interesting in, and the "locals" are very friendly. Be warned: there is a "stop 'n go" type deli at one corner, and it does attract lowlifes, including whites from below Girard who come up to get cheap beer at all hours, but 29th and Girard Avenue is a major intersection for SEPTA - trolleys on Girard, and several buses on 29th Street, so there's a large cross section of the community out at all hours waiting to get on or off of a trolley or bus. Your addition to the neighborhood would be very welcome, and it would continue the admittedly SLOW "trend" we're seeing of the neighborhood evolving into a desirable place to live - and open a business.

Seek out other opinions, even other negative ones, park and walk around at night, check out the scenery, then decide if it's worth it to you. Good luck!

I totally agree that you should go for it.. I lived at 28th and Girard next door to the vets office for 2 years and had a wonderful stay there.. no problem at all, even found most of my neighbors and the business owners in the area very friendly. Convenient area too.. best of luck!
