I switched to Sulimay's after going to the Salon at the Philadelphian for twenty years. It has been about eighteen months now with Madeline and I could not be happier. (Her ability to color is excellent) I also enjoy the neighborhood feel of a local establishment. It's a great friendly place. (I have heard that about Beehive as well but their prices are much higher)
I go , however, for a basic style. If I had lots of money and wanted a sophisticated runway look for a Vogue shoot, I would probably go somewhere in Center city.

The Beehive is absolutely the best I've found in Philly! For the last five years, I have spent a fortune going from one overpriced salon to another. Two months ago, I had a major haircut at the Hive. Loved it! Even more important, Mary, my stylist, did exactly what I wanted. None of that, look away for two minutes, and end up with Mamie Eisenhower bangs... Go there, you won't be sorry.

I have been going to tara at sulimay's for two years and she is wonderful. I don't have my color done but my sister in law does and is always happy with it!

Sulimay's is on the corner of 24th and Brown - next to McKenna's.

I've been to the hive many times, and it was good almost as pricey as the last center city salon I went to, cut and color was well over 100. I was being charged ALOT extra for having longer hair. I kept going anyway because it was not that far away. Then I had a bad experience on my wedding day and have never been back.

Now I go to Sulimay's and everyone is nice and the prices are good and I wasn't charged a fortune for having long hair.

Default Ovations Salon

Ovations is in northern liberties on Orianna St. near Spring Garden. Great spot! Ask for Teri! Good prices and great people.

Do not go to Ovations. This dude that bartends at the Bishop's Collar who is an ******* has a wife that works there. I would not patronize the wife of an ******* nor a place of her employment.

I would not recommend the Beehive either. I had an appt there one time and I called to say that I would 5 minutes late and they said no way we will not only have to reschedule but if you do it again we will have to charge you. Did you notice I only said I was going to be 5 minutes late -- how courteous of me, and of course I never went back.

Never been to Sulimay's, but the Beehive is good. I've been going to Mary for a few months now and really like her. Not the cheapest place, but convenient and I'm willing to pay a few bucks for a great cut and color since I'm the one who has to look in the mirror every morning. They have good products, too.
