I guess it was worth making a profile just to say something that isn't being disputed.

Sorry to bring this thread up again, but raider... said that the boundaries changed I now live in Fairmount instead of Brewerytown. Also told me to join the Fairmount CDC or Civic Association when I commented on the neighborhood plan for Brewerytown. The area in question is 25th to 31st between Poplar and Girard. I went to phila.gov and found these:

http://www.philaplanning.org/data/boundaries.pdf - says that area is part of Fairmount, not sure of the date but the site is copyrighted for 2007

These say that ares is Brewerytown - dated 2005
http://phillyneighborhoods.org/Neigh...rewerytown.pdf
http://phillyneighborhoods.org/Neigh.../Fairmount.pdf

Maybe someone from the Fairmount CDC or Civic group knows of this change for sure.

The Brewerytown Sharswood Civic Association runs north from Girard.

The Fairmount Civic Association runs south from Girard.

Keep in mind there is a fluctuation in boundaries based on planners, realtors, etc.

The civic association borders are pretty static.

Heck, historically Brewerytown shot down near Spring Garden, I believe (I will have to check my map at home).

So, when it comes to boundaries, there are many different factors and groups. In regards to the area CDCs and Civic Associations, Girard is the dividing line and has been for some time. (I know this because I have read the by-laws for FCA and I wrote the by-laws for BSCCA).

What's with the special font?

Anyways.. there's different borders everywhere.

Here's the somewhat official "borders"

Faimount was actually listed on the original grid map of Philadelphia by
William Penn. The grid went from river to river and Spring Garden St. to , I believe Washington Ave. In the upper left corner right next to the river there is a small hill drawn in and it is labeled "faire mount".

I've seen it on lots of old maps. In fact, you can see it in the first Patco stop on the NJ side in a mural on the wall.

I'm pretty sure Penn was naming the hill, because there wasn't a neighborhood there until the early 19th Century. The neighborhood took it's name from the hill.

I'll find it in my history of Philadelphia book and stick it up there for u to see, ok. Some coincidence that the same area on the map is here, Fairmount.
