The Fairmount Civic Association will meet at the Philadelphia Mennonite High School, 860 N. 24th Street, on Thursday, December 2, at 7:30 PM, with refreshments (pizza and sodas) at 7 PM.

Zoning changes are sought by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 2322-32 Green Street, the former St. Francis Xavier Convent. The hearing before the Zoning Board of Adjustment is scheduled for December 1, 2004, at 9:30 AM. The Association intends to ask for a continuance prior to this hearing. See Fairmount News on the web site for details, which include an addition, and use as a charitable hotel.

Only members as of December 1, 2004, can vote on this project as members of the Association. A vote of immediate neighbors will also be taken. I am in San Francisco until 12/22 for business, can I vote absentee? I hope you are running again. Good luck.

Yup. Did you go on the website? I'd be amazed if you just happened to know that I was Second Vice President.

I was on the board one other year, a few years back, and then this year. But also being on the board of YIP, it's a bit more than my schedule can handle.

Hugh, I don't know about absentee voting. I'll find out from our bylaws expert and PM you.

Here's an updated announcement with a bit more info on the 24th & Green issue:

The Fairmount Civic Association will meet at the Philadelphia Mennonite High School, 860 N. 24th Street, on Thursday, December 2, at 7:30 PM, with refreshments (pizza and sodas) at 7 PM.

Officers and directors for 2005 will be elected at this, the Annual Meeting of the Association. Only members as of October 27 can vote in this election. Second Vice President and Director are contested positions.

Zoning changes are sought by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 2322-32 Green Street, the former St. Francis Xavier Convent. The hearing before the Zoning Board of Adjustment is scheduled for December 1, 2004, at 2:00 PM. This is a correction, a prior message incorrectly said 9:30 AM.

The Association requested a continuance, but was told that legal agreements with the Archdiocese prevent any postponement. The Association expects to have a presentation and votes on this application at its Annual Meeting. See Fairmount News on the web site for details, which include a building addition, several signs, and use as a charitable hotel.

Zoning changes are sought for 2533-45 Poplar Street. This project will be voted upon at the Annual Meeting. Only members as of December 1, 2004, can vote on this project as members of the Association. A vote of immediate neighbors will also be taken. See Fairmount News for more details, including plans.

The developer for this project held a meeting for the immediate neighbors on at 7:30 PM on Thursday, November 4. This development includes six townhouses with garages, priced at over $600,000, and rising 44 feet over street level. Nearby homes are zoned R-10 residential, where the maximum height is 35 feet over street level.
