ive never had a problem with any of the employees at cvs or rite aid...and come on people.....they are ringing you up ... you maybe have to deal with them for 10 seconds ..........its not like they are your waiter at a restaurant .......or cleaning your house ...

anyhoot......i asked the lady at cvs about it..and she said that people would come in ...... wipe out the whole shelf of soap.....and go to the little bodegas and sell the stuff to the owners of those stores

No one can beat the Fresh Grocer at 40th and Walnut for worst clerks. It's like they go out of their way to go as slow as possible and be as rude as possible because they hate their lives so much.

Default In their defense

They are always under-staffed. And I try not to go to the pharma counter unless I have something to pick up.

I know how I would feel if I went through hell to become a pharmacist and someone asked me to bag their Fiddle-Faddle and "Cop and a Half" DVD. Inappropriate.

Default E-Chestnut

None of this is about Rx business - they make no money off that at all. And the government is a slow-pay so a lot of mom and pops can no longer float the cash for Rx business on a monthly basis.

But what the RX biz does do is drive sustainable traffic, so people start buying in the front of the store. Greeting cards, photo-finishing, and marked-up milk and bread is where the profit comes in.

And, of course, consumer habits will change so that they no longer buy OTC's, toothepaste, or toiletries when they go to ACME - they'll pick them up at the local CVS when they need to. It's rare to see someone buying more than 3-4 items at a time there. So CVS replaces the small mom & pops that used to provide such basic items at slightly higher cost.

And Rite Aid can be bad, but at least they have some personality. CVS is just bad, people seem unhappy.

Default cash only

Last night I tried to buy a gift card using debit from there and was told I could only buy gift cards with cash. So I said fine, I'll buy a pack of gum and get cash back. No can do--they don't do cash back on purchases. If I want cash I have to use the ATM. Awesome.

Went to another CVS in town and they took debit no problem. In fact, they were confused when I asked if I could pay with debit. "Of course..?"

That place felt like a weird prison. Also there were a bunch of people "holding" parking spots. I felt like I was in some twilight zone. I mean, I don't live in the area but the rest of it seems pretty normal. Basically I was like, what's up with this place?

They used to have the same sign for cigarettes but I see now that it's gone.

I would think that they would have to accept all 3 tenders on all merchandise except money orders (which would have to be debit or cash). I don't think they can pick and choose which tender people can or should use.

I often buy phone cards to send to my nephew who is in the military. But not at CVS. I rarely carry cash with me. I charge everything, and pay my bill every month. This is how I gain airline miles.

There are rude people everywhere...but I don't really have any qualms about the CVS, Rite Aid or Eckerd (now Rite Aid on Hamilton St).

The Fairmount Pharmacy on Green is currently understaffed...so sorry about any inconvenience there.

I will admit that I assumed she would just grab the bill, since it was lying on the counter and that's what every other clerk in my life has done. But this one just holds her hand out and when I, confused, ask her why, she says "I'm waiting for you to give me the money." Like it's beneath her, figuratively speaking, to reach down 5 inches and pick up the bill. Sheesh.
I have dealt with clerks like this. It seems by chance that it always happens when I have a basketful of items, too.

I have luck because of where I live, I can walk 10 feet into another pharmacy. It's always at the Rite Aids on Chestnut Street, too. One time it was at the 24-hour CVS on 19th and Chestnut.

Just raise my voice and unload all of the groceries on the clerk and walk out with the parting shot: "I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS SHYT. MERRY F----'IN CHRISTMAS".

One CVS that does have better than average service is 15th and Chestnut, although it closes early. There's a really nice guy there who has autism who is very cool. He's always super-nice and very witty.

For all the traditional pharma stuff I use Pickwick Pharmacy at 1700 Market (heh more convenient anyway since I work right there). It's mom and pop and you will NEVER get lip from anybody working in that shop. It's always "howyadoin' bro?", etc.

Same with grocery stores. I get so-so treatment at SuperFresh sometimes that I will go out of my way and go to FreshGrocer at 56th and Market instead. I know when I go there at 4:30 I'll get waited on and doted on "howya doin shuga?", etc.

I know it's just small pleasantries, but I am growing old and tired of bad service. I'm fighting back just like I fight back against junk mail.

I have this stamp at home that I reply to all my junk mail with. Whenever there is a free-return postage, I stamp this on the mail piece and I send it back:

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA:

There's a relatively new non-profit that will take care of that for you: http://www.41pounds.org/. For $41, they will reach out to the typical junk-mail providers and have them stop sending stuff to you for 5 years. Good for the environment, protection from identity theft, and your time/sanity!

this CVS has to be one of the worst ever.
last night i was in there around 8:45 and there was ONE employee in the whole entire store, at the photo area thing where I waited in line for almost 10 min.
Anyway, while i was shopping, a man was lurking the aisles...looking a bit suspicious.
While i was paying, the same man just walks out...with the alarms blaring ...which means he definitely stole things..and he kept walking out of the store.
What does the clerk do? Nothing. Of course.
I mean, ii understand there was only 1 clerk but my sister works at the pharmacy and she says it happens all the time. And no one cares. Nice.
