Default New Biz

Between that CVS & the Rite Aid up the street the choice to purchase small pharmacy like goods is lousy. Both stores are always in bad shape between the help (yes those being paid to assist patrons), the selection, location (parking lot nightmare), and prices. As much as I like to support the neighborhood stores I rather take the car ride to Target and get more for my money in the end. Both these stores are somewhat outdated and really need some rehab from the management on up. Actually surprised that another major drug store company has not moved into either local and made improvements. And yes I will still shop there for minor in need today items. As for drug fills never had the experience there.
We also have the two small family owned stores (Ellis I believe is one)up in the 24th-25th Brownish Parrish area that somehow remain open for biz like the good old days of actually knowing your Pharmicist by name.

Fairmount Pharmacy at 19th & Green is also a good family run place.

I also go to the drug store in the Philadelphian for Prilosec OTC, since to get that at CVS requires two staffers using their nuke codes and turning their launch keys simultaneously.

Oh, and do not get me started on obtaining the razor blade cartriges. Someone ought to start a website where you can buy all of these items online, would save SO much time.

Rite Aid also rocks - reeked of pot yesterday but that place runs great.
Drugstore.com is great with getting prescriptions (they are associated with Rite Aid) and many toiletries and household items. There is generally a coupon for $5 off and free shipping with any order of $30 or more in non-prescription items. Customer service was excellent as well. I've tried CVS.com as well with less success: had an order in which I was given no notification that my confirmed order was canceled, and several orders that would not go through because their credit card system was on the fritz for weeks at a time. (Yes, I am sure the credit cards were not the problem.)

I am usually all for supporting the local mom-and-pop establishments, but MAN is delivery easy!

funny I thought they removed the condoms from the glass case, like recently.

Tenzo-
I always wait for a female employee and then say... I have this "problem" (hold hands 2 feet apart) which one should I use. It never gets old.

If you think that the Rite-Aid on 20th and Fairmount runs great I honestly think you may need to seek professional help. I've been in there, waiting to purchase something, while two employees argue over the correct title to "Don't Be A Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood." And that was one of the more charming lapses in customer service. That place is like the Rite-Aid version of the Walmart on Columbus Blvd.

I would just not spend any money at all at that location and let CVS/pharm management figure out why it's losing them money.

Pharmacy companies right now are expanding so much that they are not looking at the bottom line of their stores. They even install new stores in suburbia where there are no homes built yet... anticipating foot traffic before it even arrives. The pharma industry is awash in so much money and Pennsylvania is loaded up with a lot of seniors--it makes this economically feasible.

Do yourself a favor. Look for a mom and pop pharmacy if it's possible, or pick another pharmacy that is on your commute to home/work. If service was that bad, I would use my Transpass and just take my business to another store in town, or if I worked in the burbs... spend the money out there.

Bad service shouldn't be rewarded with your continued patronage.

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA:

In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking
Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk

Agreed. The only time I've ever actually been tempted to say something nasty to a clerk at a cash register was at this Rite Aid. I was paying for my purchase, took out a 5 or a 10 dollar bill, laid it down on the counter so I could dig out some change. I gave the change to the clerk. I will admit that I assumed she would just grab the bill, since it was lying on the counter and that's what every other clerk in my life has done. But this one just holds her hand out and when I, confused, ask her why, she says "I'm waiting for you to give me the money." Like it's beneath her, figuratively speaking, to reach down 5 inches and pick up the bill. Sheesh.

Just because the service is bad doesn't mean anyone wants them gone. Both CVS and Rite Aid carry plenty of useful items that the mom and pops, unfortunately, don't. I don't see the point in driving them away.

I experienced the same kind of lazy, surly behavior the few times I was forced to go in that place. I don't expect anything better from these folks but doesn't that place have a manager? Do they really need to hire from the bottom of the gene pool?
