Default For the convenience of working parents

I found a slip of paper in the door this morning (probably put there last night) that says "For the convenience of working parents trick or treating will be held Sunday Oct. 28th 5-7 pm."

Anybody know where this came from? I'd like to send a paper back saying that it's not very convenient for me to buy candy until Oct. 31st.

this has been going on for years, halloween in fairmount is never celebrated on the 31st. It's not too hard to figure out why they do it, when I lived in fairmount we gave out candy on both days, neighborhood kids never came on halloween, and very few homes gave out candy

Trick or treating generally starts early, like 4:30 or 5:00. It can be hard for working parents to be home on a weekday that early. By having it on Sunday, it's less disruptive to dinner and nighttime schedules for kids, and easier for working parents to be home for it.

Flip side, as one of my friends found out, is that the kids from the (& I'm quoting the friend's neighbor here) "ghet-to" come by on the actual Halloween and they don't want those kids anywhere near their homes. This became very clear when a few years ago the 31st fell on a Sunday and the same notice was put out for the Sunday BEFORE Halloween, with the same explanation. Go figure. The Sunday trick-or-treating is for the convenience of parents, but when Halloween actually falls on a Sunday, suddenly it's not so convenient.

Stupid. I'm giving out candy on the 31st, not before.

I didn't get the notice, and I will not be passing out candy tonight..... It isn't Halloween!
The reason that one poster stated.... not wanting the neighboring community's children into our neighborhood.... is outrageous, and, quite frankly, racist.
I will be passing out candy on Halloween to any children that ring my bell (although my doorbell IS broken, so, perhaps I should sit on my stoop!)

for the convenience of working non-parents...we will be ignoring your spawn's need for candy this evening.

I just talked to a neighbor who described Sunday as "white Halloween." Classy.

Who organizes this? Those slips of paper didn't get into mailboxes by themselves.

Me too. I don't have Christmas on the 20th and I don't have Halloween on the 28th.

I don't get the notice either; as my friend said, her neighbors consider my block unredeemable since we *are* the "ghet-to" anyway.

I usually sit on my stoop because the doorbell is annoying and scares the cats. Plus it's just easier and I can visit with my neighbors (who all give out candy on the actual day).

there was a whole discussion about this last year. i for one have lived in fairmount for the past 5 years and have never had kids ring my doorbell on the weekend before halloween. i give out candy on the 31st, and have always had a huge mix of white and black kids.

if it really is a working parents issue and not a race issue, then, for one day of the year, take off a little early. its halloween, for goodness sake!
