Default FAIRMOUNT CIVIC ASSOCIATION OCTOBER MEETING 10/28

The Fairmount Civic Association will meet at the Philadelphia Mennonite High School, 860 N. 24th Street, on Thursday, October 28, at 7:30 PM, with refreshments at 7 PM.

Republican candidate Jack Morley, running in the 1st Pennsylvania Senate District against Sen. Fumo, will speak.

The board of the Association has proposed the first dues increase in several years, to be discussed and voted upon by the general membership at the October 28th meeting.

Dues for businesses, now $15, is proposed to increase to $20, households, now $15 is proposed to increase to $20, dues for individuals, now $8, is proposed to increase to $15, but dues for seniors (65 and over) will remain at $2. The membership is free to approve, change, or defeat these dues changes. The increases are sought because of rising expenses in several areas.

On Wednesday, the Inquirer had an article on possible locations for the Barnes Foundation art collection on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The article mentioned the Youth Study Center and the Von Colln Field as possible locations for a new museum building. Neighors should note that the Montgomery County Judge considering the future of the Barnes has not given permission for amove, nor has the city decided on a location.

More information about the Association is at

Zoning changes are sought for 2533-45 Poplar Street and 719-25 North 24th Street. See Fairmount News on the web site.

Wow, Niel: your dues are really cheap.

Interesting that you say that. The board has discussed this a lot recently and we realize that our dues are considerably below those of a lot of other community organizations. However, I imagine there will be at least some, and perhaps a lot, of opposition to raising them. Perhaps I'm wrong - hope so.
