FYI.....
--------------------------- Hello everyone: Here is the promised e-mail regarding othe protest. A small group met last night at my home and set the date for our protest. The protest will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 10th. Please mark that date on your calendar. We chose this date because (1) in informal conversations with people at the park, it became clear that as week-day protest would not work because of the varying work hours of the humans in our community and (2) Friday evening is a very busy evening in the neighborhood. There is much foot traffic and outdoor dining so we have a ready made larger audience. The theme of the protest is "Bring Back the Dog Park." Our current idea is that we will gather in the green space of our park at 7 p.m. and, we will accompany our dogs as they walk on the sidewalk around the prison, beginning and ending in the green space on the Corinthian side. We will have posters that we can wear, buttons, a small hand-out for those in the neighborhood who may be interested in what we are doing as well as stamped postcards thanking Councilmen Greenelee and Claark for their support. Of course, we will contact the press. What we need to know from you right now is this: 1. Will you participate in this event (an e-mail with just a yes or no is fine) and 2. Do you have time to help create posters and other literature. If you can help create posters, please indicate your free days and times. Further, if you want to help with the final plans, let me know if you can attend a meeting next week either Monday or Tuesday evening. When Councilmen Greenlee asked me what the goals of the protest would be, I spoke for myself and said (1) We want to change an unjust situation and (2) as dog owners committed to the growth of our community, we want to be in solidarity with one another so that we remain empowered. Some of you may have other reasons for participating. Certainly, it is important that we send a clear message when we gather. Thanks for your patience in waiting for this e-mail. And I am really looking forward to hearing back from you. Karen Clark and Sunshine Justice Clark (yes, Justice is his middle name and it certainly is fortuitous now) clarkkj@dolphin.upenn.edu |

The closing of the dog park made the front page of today's Art Museum News. The article featured FESPP president Eric Diaz and his plans for a resolution of the problem. Is your group involved at all with FESPP or as it is called Our Park?
