Default Jackhammers at 11pm?

Can anyone else hear what sounds like jackhammers down towards Spring Garden? WTF are they jackhammering at 11pm?

The only thing I can think of--if you're near the Eakins Oval--is that the sound was somehow carrying/echoing up from the 76/676 interchange, where there was some major road work going on last night. When I passed by about 9:30pm I did see a jackhammer or two, though they weren't on at the time.

Other than that... I have no idea!

I'm not sure about this specific case, but PGWs emergency crews jackhammer through the night (3AM, beneath my window in one instance). I think the operating theory is that jackhammers are somewhat quieter than explosions.

Most likely emergency utility repairs such as gas or water leaks that can’t wait until normal hours to be repaired. Happens all the time in the city.

I heard some noise around that time at 15th and Green, but (no joke) I thought it was the upstair's neighbours bed knocking around

Take turns jackhammering the sale holes at least 2x a week on our block. Of the last 20 times I can recall the distribution was:

10pm - 2am: 14
7am - 9am: 6

Letter grade for quality of re-fill with asphalt:

A:0
B:0
C:0
D:1 (kid was on fire, theme song from "Color of Money" playing as he shoveled)
F: 19 (sunken in about 3 minutes after they left)

Never, ever during hours when no one is on the street.

...better than jackhammering RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW between 5 and 7am!

It could have been from 76/676. I just was hoping for some instant gratification from this site to tell me what it was!

Still not as annoying as the leafblowers on Saturday morning. It's a STREET, could you SWEEP IT?? Thanks.
