Default Fairmount artist Ann Northrup at Cerulean Arts

Hi,
I just wanted to let everyone know about our next exhibition featuring Fairmount artist Ann Northrup. The opening reception is next Friday, June 22 from 5-9pm. I tried to post an image of her work but I'm not able to for some reason. You can check our website though at http://www.ceruleanarts.com/exhibitions.htm. Hope to see you there!

Here is some information about the show:

LANDSCAPES AT THE EDGE OF THE PACIFIC:

REDISCOVERING A CALIFORNIA PAST

WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS & COLLAGES BY ANN NORTHRUP

June 22 - August 3, 2007

Opening Reception: Friday, June 22, 2007 5pm – 9pm

Gallery Talk: Sunday, July 15, 2007 1pm – 4pm

Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Landscapes at the Edge of the Pacific: Rediscovering a California Past, featuring watercolor paintings and collages by Ann Northrup. The work presented was created in 2004 and 2006 during Northrup’s residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts in her hometown of Sausalito, CA.

Evoking the memories and emotions of her past, Northrup explores their intense connection to place in her paintings and collages. Back in Sausalito for the first time in 40 years, Northrup was so taken by the landscape of her childhood; her watercolors capture the wild and stunning beauty of the cliffs and beaches. Additionally, she made many photographs of her old haunts in town from which she created a book of small semi-abstract color collages. In each one the physical place is a portrait of her inner emotional “scape”.

Ann Northrup studied with Philip Guston and James Weeks at Boston University where she received her MFA in 1976. Since 2001, she has painted five large-scale outdoor murals in Philadelphia. Exhibiting regularly in the Boston and Philadelphia areas, Northrup was the recipient of an Independence Foundation Grant in 2004 as well as a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Special Opportunities Grant in 2002.

Landscapes at the Edge of the Pacific: Rediscovering a California Past is on view from June 22 through August 3, 2007 and is free and open to the public. The opening reception is Friday, June 22 from 5-9pm. The artist will give a gallery talk about her work on Sunday, July 15 from 1-4pm.

Cerulean Arts’ mission is to cultivate an appreciation for art by holding exhibitions, offering unique decorative and fine art for sale and providing art instruction for personal fulfillment. Strategically located at 1355 Ridge Avenue—where Ridge Avenue, Fairmount Avenue and Broad Street all intersect—Cerulean Arts is poised to become an anchor of Philadelphia’s Avenue of the Arts North.

We received an invitation in the mail from the artist and plan to attend. I am glad, however, you posted the info on Phillyblog because your gallery is not quite in Fairmount but certainly close. I would like to attest to Ann's talent as an artist as well as being a warm and friendly person - great combination for a gallery opening.

Looking forward to meeting you Yardbird! Ann really is a talented artist & we're so happy to be having her show. While our gallery is in the West Poplar neighborhood, Ann lives in the Fairmount neighborhood as do we. We hope many others from the neighborhood will turn out tomorrow night to support her!
