Anybody living in or visiting Fairmount needs to be aware of a situation we have in the neighborhood currently.
A group of four young (14-18) African-American males has been making the rounds in the neighborhood for the last week or so. They have assaulted two people - one on Sunday night at 24th & Parrish, the other Monday around 26th & Aspen. The assaults basically involved a completely unprovoked punch to the face. Monday's assault was particularly alarming because it occurred as the victim was getting off a bus at 5:30 p.m., i.e. rush hour, when the streets are fairly busy. Please be aware that when you're out walking and you see a group of kids (especially if one is noticeably taller than the other, as is the case with this group - also one was riding a bike) you need to steer clear of them and, if they're acting suspiciously, call 911 immediately. |

This might be unrelated but in June, two black kids, 14-18 years old, one taller than the other, one on a bike, other on a push scooter were terrorizing girls in University City. Their mo was to wait until the girl would walk onto a deserted block, walk from behind, grab hair if possible, and punch the girl. They would then take stuff, especially cell phones. It seems that the police have to tread carefully around here since they are young black guys and the Penn police can't take bad press. As a result, they have to actually catch the guys in action or wait for a victiim id. Problem is the victims were attacked from behind and they can't finger them out of a lineup so it sounds like they got away.

Maybe that's the same group that whacked me upside the head with a block of wood as I was walking on North Broad near Master earlier this year. Maybe they got bored of Broad and moved on to greener pastures.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the armed hold-ups earlier this summer:
http://citypaper.net/articles/2004-08-26/cb3.shtml It's sad my first phillyblog post isn't about a happier topic. Maybe I'll go post something in the food section now. |

Great......More kids to be suspicious of in this area. I am a female and ride a motorcycle so this concerns me greatly. The white kids hanging out at the corner of 25th and Parrish seem to be mostly harmless from what I have observed. One night last month I heard a scuffle outside my window that sounded like a group of kids having some words late one night. It appeared to be a white group and a black group of kids fighting. Anyone else hear this?? I live on 25th between Parrish and Poplar.
