But here's the million dollar question--what kind of "cake" are they throwing off the top of the prison? 'Cuz those Twinkies just don't cut it. When Marie Antoinette said "let them eat cake," I'm sure she meant Tastycakes! This will be the first time in several years I'll be able to attend, and Twinkies would be such a bummer...

I thought she always threw Tastycakes!

Devil Dogs would be nice but not exactly a Philadelphia tradition. But, if you've never been, trundle your buns right over there. It's one of the best days in the city.

I read in the paper that they are taking out all references to saying "Off with their heads" this year. Marie won't be going to the gullitione, but instead will be pummelled by the crowd. I did read they were still going to guillitine the watermellon.

A few years ago (2002 maybe?), the Bastille Day celebration was dismal--no music, no nothing. Basically just the storming of the Bastille. I later heard a rumor that the celebration was scaled back because it was Greek picnic weekend, but I have no idea if that's true.

But that was the year of the Twinkies. Ew. Devil dogs? Blasphemy!

Well, it was a good storming, especially the bit about not eating cake because of the South Beach diet. Twinkies again, though. :?

The interesting thing was that Marie actually shouted "Let them eat Tastykakes!" but then they did indeed throw Twinkies.

How long did it take between the release of the "prisoner" and whatever ended up hapenning to Marie? I waited what seemed like an eternity and finally left because I was supposed to be meeting somebody.

That sucked that they threw twinkies the very first time I was there
