I personally wouldn't mind a lot of tall buildings on Pennsylania Ave. All I want is good design. Build as high as zoning lets you, just give me good design.

Why people living in a city are so afraid of skyscrapers is beyond me.

I have very mixed feelings on the ball fields. On one hand, I can appreciate them greatly, on the other, I can't help but feel that a baseball field on the parkway is misuse of such a monumental feature of the city. Not as much as the Youth Study Center mind you, but certainly in the same ballpark as it, if you will excuse a very bad pun.

I'd love to see a Liberties Walk type development on the parking lot at Fairmount & 23rd, but I know I'm probably in the minority on that.

I don't believe I said I was out and out opposed to the project. I'm looking forward to that site being put to better use. I have some reservations about the height of the building, but that 1930's photo indicates that in fact that's what the planners of the Parkway had in mind, so it is in fact in keeping with that area's design.

Who is the THEY? It seems to me that the developers ARE planning to come to the community meeting, and that our Councilman knew about it, and that there were zoning notices posted on the property a while ago. I understand that the owners have the right to develop the property (one of those great things about our country and system protecting property rights), and they are following the required steps. (Which doesn't necessarily include getting the pre-approval of John Smith, of 2475 Wallace St.) Does anyone know that they have NOT followed the required steps?

I don't consider this a subterfuge or conspiracy or criminal act.

Every once in a while we have to realize there is a process that involves other human beings in city gov't doing stuff in their jobs, which seems to me what has happened here.

Now--as far as crumming up the neighborhood---have any of you seen the properties on the north side of the 22xx block of Spring Garden??? ANY time any of you want to go out and protest how THEY are a blight to our neighborhood, and at EYE LEVEL, too, sign me up. Now THOSE owners ARE deserving of ire and venom, which is all too easily thrown at people wanting to actuall invest and build new quality infrastrucutre making our neighborhood better. And I'm not talking about Linnett's Gulf station, which is BY FAR the nicest property on that block.

Spring Garden baffles me. It could be such a beautiful street. It has so much potential. And it just looks awful. Particularly with every damn car wash or other silly thing they put on it. I hope the triangle lot between 12th & Ridge is something that adds to the area, rather than turning it into a ridiculous tiny strip mall.

Spring Garden has been neglected for a long time - most of the houses were rental. Though, be fair, west of Broad it's really not too bad. East of Broad...yeesh.

mja, I agree about the 12th St. development, though I have a bad feeling it will be exactly that - a shopping strip.

SPM, I don't believe there were ever any zoning notices on that property. That's really the point - surprisingly, it would appear no zoning variances were necessary for this project, so no hearing was held. Some may find this hard to believe, but I suppose they can ask pointed questions at the community meeting on Wednesday. Wish I could be there.

I'm not from that neighborhood but based on what I've seen in local politics I don't think it would be hard for the pols to pack that meeting with a bunch of ringers. Jaded, who me?

Im pretty sure I remember seeing a zoning sign in the window of that bar at the BW late last year. Also I def. remember seeing zoning signs on the building that sits on the SW corner of 21 and Spring Garden late last year.
