I heard Cullen left and went back to his previous district (maybe the 23rd?). I don't know how true it is but someone told me that they needed him up there to stop the crime from coming down to Fairmount & Center City.

Default Police leadership

To set the record straight.

Capt. Cullen transferred from the 9th (after about 3-4 years) to a Narc unit in early 2008.

He was replaced by Capt. Wilson ( who came from the 23rd). Capt. Wilson is currently attending an FBI program at Quantico (about 10-11 weeks) and will return to the 9th in September.

There is an acting captain for the 9th while Capt. Wilson is at the training program.

The 23rd district (North of Poplar) is headed by Capt. Larry Nodiff.

My opinion is that we have two good captains for the 9th and the 23rd.

I have dealt with Cpt. Wilson much when he was in the 23rd and I like the guy. From what I have spoken to Cpt. Nodiff about, I like him so far too. I agree, I think the 9th and 23rd are in capable hands right now.

Thanks, you've jogged my memory that it was Capt. Wilson that I met and was impressed with. He seemed quite sharp yet approachable. I recall that he had come from the 23rd. Not sure I ever met Cullen, but I wasn't impressed with the folks he sent out to meet the public.

Glad to hear the captain is getting additional training, he seems like the type that will make sure his community benefits from it.

Default Shooting at 24th and Poplar?

I saw on the news last night that the police shot somebody in a car at 24th and Poplar late Saturday/ early Sunday. I'm a few blocks a way and didn't hear anything. Anyone else see/hear anything?

Yup. The cops stopped a driver up at the end of our block, at 24th & Poplar, two nights ago. The guy made a move as though for a gun, so a police officer shot & wounded him:

I'm told by neighbors this was around 4 a.m.

Another crime bulletin, from the Fairmount Town Watch email group:

Quote:
White male about 20 years old with brown hair, very blond highlights, chin length, stylish, shaped around face. clean shaven. brown shirt, brown shorts, seen on garage off Bucknell between Aspen and Brown, with access to entire interior of block. A neighbor scared him away and called 911. He also hopped the fence on the other side of Brown and Bucknell.

Default College Ave murder

Any information about this blurb on philly.com?

In the city's Fairmount section, a resident was slain after three armed robbers forced their way into a home on the 2300 block of College Ave. Shawn Long, 34, was shot in the head on the third floor of the house. He stumbled down two flights of stairs to the front of house where police found him mortally wounded on the street. Long was pronounced dead at 10:48 p.m. at Hahnemann University Hospital, police said.
