can you leave out your identity? i dont really trust the philadelphia police with that stuff. they screw up all the time. i had a friend who was supposed to be in witness protecting, but they didn't do s*** for her... she had to take matters into her own hands.. it got bad... :/

Yes, although you need to tell them the location of the event, which in my case was my own address. If you want to do something like report activity on a nearby corner, however, that would still allow you some anonymity.
They have another section in there for optional info, including your name and contact number, which they claim shall be kept confidential. |

Woke up this morning to find out that someone had tried to pry open the front door to our house last night...fortunately they did not succeed. Neighbor heard something woke up, but went back to sleep. We slept right through it. Very creepy and this is after our car was broken into a little over a month ago...seems like things are going downhill here...

I've noticed that petty crime always goes up when the schools let out around here. I'm not sure if I'd consider this area "going downhill" based on 2 incidents.
I hope, though, that you reported both to 911? |

Apartments are alarmed, building is not. Yes, this incident was reported to the police. There has always been crime in Fairmount/Spring Garden (we've been in the area for 9+ years and had a car stolen once about 8 years ago), but completely anecdotely it seemed to ebb for a number of years and then has picked back up mroe recently (we also witnessed a car break in on 21st about 4 months ago). Not just based on our personal experience, but also that of our friends and neighbors. Hope we are wrong.

This is my 3rd July 4th holiday in the neighborhood. My first one was angst-ridden as it took me an hour to get home only to find some kids had parked in my driveway and had the audacity to be mad when I parked them in (this was before I moved to the square). People need to be mindful and use alternate forms of transportation (to preserve their parking) and keep valuables out of sight both in their cars and around their houses. Its one thing when people from nearby nick your goodies, but when people from all over the city are wandering by there is even less inhibition to help oneself to a strangers' belongings.
Everyone be mindful and have a safe and fun holiday weekend!! |
