Offender broke into a car, and someone called 911. Police arrive, see offender still in car, and offender takes off. Police catch offender about a block away, and incident to his arrest search him and find all kinds of goodies that were presumably from different cars. Police drive around area to look for other cars broken into, and find a few more. Police run their plates to find the owners' addresses, and then wake them up so they can identify the property found on the offender as their personal property which had been in their vehicles. Offender is now defendant, facing three separate charges for thefts from automobiles.

Our car, parked on 2100 block of Fairmount, was broken into sometime on Tuesday night along with several others according to the cops...the thief, clearly a professional who knows alarms, removed the driver's side airbag...car had a factory stock alarm, but unfortunately no shock sensors...our mistake in not arming it (a Honda - double duh) properly...anyway, a word of warning to those of you who think your car is safe with the factory system...

I was looking at the new crime map PPD put together and noticed there were apparently a rash of robberies w/gun on Wed. May 21st. There were 3 incidents within a half hour of each other on 800 Block of Taney, 800 Block of Judson, and 800 Block of 22nd. I hadn't heard anything about them, does anyone know if they arrested someone?
Here's the PPD crime map site http://citymaps.phila.gov/CrimeMap/StepByStep.aspx |

I was out and about with friends on Wednesday having dinner. I thought I saw an unusually high number of police cars driving around. My friends were telling me that I spend too much time reading PhillyBlog and that I've turned paranoid. Turns out one of the armed robberies was on my block!

Not sure I'm going to add much value to the thread but my car was broken into a few weeks ago ... parked at the corner of Corinthian & Fairmount. It was a cheap Hyundai - had a really cheap looking, after market CD player in it.
Unfortunately it wasn't a professional who broke in since whoever it was totaled the car. It's such a shame since it's a nice neighborhood. Parking on Fairmount Ave seems to be a little better... or maybe I'm naiive. |
