Surely you don't mean that there's a Crime sticky in the South Philly forum! According to Chief Salsa, South Philly crime is nonexistent.

(Chief, if you're reading this, sorry for ribbing you. You have some good points on a number of issues. There *do* appear, however, to be some upon which we do not see eye to eye.)

im not sure how this sticky thing works but this was another sick assault that happened.

Another Crime - It's everywhere
I received this in an email today.....
This man was walking to his home at City View, which is on the cusp of our neighborhood. Keep in mind that this is to the south, not all the bad is coming from the north...

On a morbid note - Please be careful when you are out. George Young (my
mom's boss) was mugged Friday night at 19th and the Parkway on his way home from Rouge. He had his wallet stolen, was beaten severly and stabbed
possibly 6 times. He is in Hahneman Hospital with cuts, bruises, punctured
lung, broken ribs and some blood on his brain. It makes me very nervous
for you since you are sometimes around town and alone. George told my mom
that someone else from his building was stabbed not too long ago outside of
Bishops. So I am being a mom and telling you not to go out alone. Mace
only does so much.

someone made the point in another thread that we need to give the city and developers like westrum's company an incentive to help fight the crime that seems to have picked up in the neighborhood. this seems like the right idea; but the question is how? any thoughts?

Default Keep the separate threads

I think the idea to collapse the crimes thread is going to loose its value.

These neighborhoods are so big and so vast that having a crime committed needs to be talked about in the specific area that has occurred.

So if there is a crime at 29th and Brown or Spring Garden and 22nd it needs to be each a separate thread

Lets face it ... of all the stuff that happens and is going on ... honestly, I care about safety and security more than anything else.

I can understand why people can get sick of crime threads, but, in reality, it is probably the best service a community forum can provide for the neighborhood.

All you are doing is forcing readers to search through a vast crime thread if you collapse it.

both to give keiko a reason to get to number 500 AND to make a point, should we start a sticky thread that address specific ideas about what can be done to prevent crime in the future. it might make some sense to split the reporting of crime with brainstorming about how to prevent it. it's just easier to find thoughts related to each topic if they are separated. perhaps it's a lousy idea, but perhaps....

i think that its westrums best interest to subdue crime in the area. when you look at rentals in the brewerytown area relating to westrum, it seems that most are buying to resell and renting in the meantime. this is not good. the price is going up but the people who bought them have to bring the rental price down. im not sure why people would want to buy let alone rent in a crime infested neighborhood. i was thinking that we should contact the rep for westrum. i know that penrose properties will be there at the next west girard meeting. other people to cantact would be azim mahamid at the brewerytoen cdc, he is trying to start a townwatch in brewerytown.

a good point. what would you/we/anyone say to westrum’s company? let’s suppose for the moment that they’ve already looked at the crime issue and have concluded that it’s not a big market risk for them. what could we say to change their minds? request a meeting? write a letter? (go back to my suggestion of armed, roving bands of fairmount vigilantes with fife and drum corps? heh.)

i think contacting westrum is a good idea; the question is what we could say that would be most effective.
