SUBURBAN SQUARE’S PLAN FOR THE NEW ARDMORE FARMERS MARKET

CATERS TO CUSTOMERS’ REQUESTS

Suburban Square’s NEW Ardmore Farmers Market Opens on Wednesday, November 5, 2003.

of Gourmet Delicacies & Prepared Meals To Go!
(Ardmore, Pennsylvania) – With construction of the new Ardmore Farmers Market nearing completion, Suburban Square, the Main Line’s premier outdoor lifestyle shopping center announces the architectural details and customer amenities to be featured inside the new building, which will open on Wednesday, November 5, 2003. Built in celebration of Suburban Square’s 75th Anniversary, the innovative new building incorporates historic elements with modern sophistication. Amerishop Real Estate Services, L.P., the management company of Suburban Square, commissioned renowned farmers market architect, Hugh A. Boyd Architects to design a state-of-the-art facility that captured the heart and soul of Suburban Square’s historic heritage. In keeping with the goal of creating a suburbia refuge and resource, Amerishop augmented the center’s services to reflect their customers’ desires.

"Customers played an instrumental role in the redesign of the Ardmore Farmers Market" said Robert Mills, CEO of Amerishop Real Estate. "The new market transforms their requests into a reality from the wider shopping aisles and the addition of shopping carts to indoor and outdoor dining terraces."

With the 14,000 square foot expansion of the Ardmore Farmers Market and the 8,000 square foot Trader Joe’s, the Square will host one of the largest array of gourmet food delicacies available at a shopping center. "What began as a way to enhance the overall shopping experience has evolved into a gastronomic haven," said Joe Gampper, Senior Vice President of Leasing with Amerishop. " It’s a feast of activity!"

The adjacent parking lot, dining terraces, wider shopping aisles and extended operating hours offer convenience and ease; while the vaulted beam ceilings with clearstory windows and blonde maple wood highlights frame the merchants fresh offerings. A mosaic of color and taste, the market’s 22 vendors’ expansive selection range from fresh produce and seafood to culinary ready-to-serve masterpieces. The combination of the Ardmore Farmers Market and Trader Joe’s enables shoppers to savor meals at home or dine-on-the-run. "Catering to our customers’ busy lifestyles necessitated adding some new concept tenants and extending the evening and weekend operating hours," said Larry Gee, General Manager of Suburban Square.

New concept tenants include Low Carb D’Lites, an Atkins-inspired food vendor and the Chaddsford Wine Shop, featuring Pennsylvania’s finest selection of wines. "The expanded evening and weekend hours at the Market are the perfect ingredient for our success, especially now that the Market will be open on Sunday. Much of my clientele are busy health conscious professionals who don’t have time to shop during the day," said Michael Baltimore, owner of Low Carb D’Lites.

While Lee Miller, proprietor of Chaddsford Winery said, "We’re thrilled about the entire concept, it allows us to sell wine with food, which is a rare commodity in Pennsylvania. It’s the perfect arena for one-stop grocery shopping."

As one of the first shopping centers in America, Suburban Square began and continues to this day as a resource and haven for suburban residents looking to escape from the trappings of city chaos. During the late 1920’s, residents desired a place that freed them from the daily grind of traveling to the city to buy their wares. Today, seventy-five years later, the Square’s original mission of easing customers’ daily routines still thrives under Amerishop’s management. The expansion of the Ardmore Farmers Market and the development of Trader Joe’s represent how Suburban Square is evolving to satiate Main Line residents’ palates.

Architectural Style
Complimentary to the art-deco style of the original Suburban Square buildings, the Ardmore Farmers Market architects seek to blend earth and building into one. The Market displays simple shapes and crisp geometric patterns while utilizing blonde maple wood and metal decking to frame merchants’ fresh offerings. Inside, vaulted ceilings, exposed wood beams, clearstory windows and polished concrete floors echo the outside minimalist style. Outdoor seating areas infuse wisteria-climbed trellis with streetscape view. All these elements together produce a remarkable and beautiful building designed to enhance the shopping experience at Suburban Square.
