Those with children might be familiar with "Philadelphia Chickens", which is basically Sandra Boynton cartoons ("Pajama Time", "Moo Baa La La La", "Barnyard Dance", etc.) set to a kind of musical score. The title track is by the Bacon Brothers, Kevin &...the other one.

how about the dead milkmen's punk rock girl. it's a philly classic.
"One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead
I met a girl there and she almost knocked me dead"
bonus for a travel mix tape is that there's a line in the chorus that goes something like " we'll travel round the world, just you and me punk rock girl"

My favorite song with a philly mention is definitely "I Don't Care about You" (such a Philly attitude too!). It was recorded back in the Early 80's by a band called FEAR. The lead singer was a dude named Lee Ving ( he was also the Detective in that crappy movie Clue). Guns n' Roses even covered this song on The Spaghetti Incident. if you want to watch it being performed, go rent the Decline of the Western Civilization (a great punk rock documentary), and fast forward to the last 15 minutes. FEAR was a band that liked to start riots by insulting the audience, and spitting on the crowd, so watching the Performance is definitely worth it(plus their music is good too!).

I Don't Care About You
I'm from South Street Philadelphia, up from avenue C.
I seen empty hands that was waitin' to freeze
Up from the power at home

[CHORUS:]

I don't care about you
$%&# you!
I don't care about you
$%&# you!

I seen Hollywood Boulevard
Welfare hotel
And I spent the night in jail
At the Wilcox Hotel

I don't care about you
$%&# you!
I don't care about you

I seen an old man have a heart attack in Manhattan
Well he died while we just stood there lookin' at him
Ain't he cute?

I don't care about you
$%&# you!
I don't care about you

I seen mad rollin' drunks
bodies in the streets
I saw a man who was sleepin' in his own puke
a man with no legs crawlin' down
Fifth Street tryin' just to get somethin' to eat

I don't care about you
$%&# you!
I don't care about you
$%&# you!
I don't care about you
$%&# you!
I don't care about you

$%&# you!

Wasn't there a song about Kensington girls? I remember hearing of it but don't know if it ever materialized? :what_is_:

Philadelphia Songs by Denison Witmer is a great album. Artwork is purty too. Everyone should go buy it.
